I worked in Vegas casinos from 1977 to 1993, I was talking about those times, the tail End of the old days and the chaos when Atlantic City opened and went on to ruin what had been a very good thing. In the 'old days' if a game had a very good night ( won big) the boss would grab some 'blacks', throw them to the dealers and say, 'Here you go boys, good job. That was then. What do you mean by when drinks were free ? Drinks are still complimentary for people who are gambling. Some places have a minimum time spent gambling in order to qualify, just to get rid of trolls who show up and bet the minimum and want a drink immediately.

It has nothing to do with tipping. I've seen people bet the minimum and tip generously, and I've seen people bet huge and stiff the staff. The non-tippers are the real fleas, and they get the service they deserve.

On craps tables players who make only the minimum bet, especially only one bet (of the many possible bets that can be made) are known as 'fleas'. If there are multiple such players on a game the table has a lot of fleas. When drinks were free they were basically just paying the minimum possible to rent a spot at the table to get free drinks and usually stiffed the waitress. The waitresses knew who the stiffs were and avoided them, thus the stiffs would complain that the waitress hadn't been arou... [ More ]

You can have a steak at Texas RoadHouse for say $30.

You can also have a steak at a Michelin Star restaurant in New York for $1,000.

You can have a steak, wherever you want to have a steak as long as you can afford to pay for it.

Same with flying, you can fly coach, business class, first class or charter a plane, it's all up to you.

Back to the lottery, whatever game or games you play, let them be those games that you can afford to play.

I do but I get something out of it. Spending five dollars on a slip of paper that has virtually no chance of winning is not happening. I don't give money to bums for the same reason... a total waste of money.

Of course lottery jackpot odds are outrageous so one, two, three and five dollar tickets are in essence chump change. Between drawings players don't spend three to five dollars on frivolous things

There's a lot of kvetching going on lately about $5 MM and spending $3 oin a PB ticket, for Powerplay minstead of just $2, in other words I want to win multimillions but refues to spend mopre thanb $2 per ticket to do it.
