You've moved to the wrong place if nosy neighbors can come ask you questions.

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, live in a run down shack, or are viewed as the village idiot, nosy neighbors will ask intrusive questions. It is unavoidable.

The issue is how you manage it and to shut it down quickly and establish boundaries.

Obviously the less you tell someone the better. A secret can be kept if just one person knows the secret, so a big win can't and wont stay a secret forever. In my case, my family will know what happened as well as legal and financial professionals. I know I can count on the pro's to be discreet, but there are a few folks in my family that I can't count on to not say anything to anybody.

I like the lottery advice , Claim you went broke by living an incredibly lavish lifestyle. People might call you an idiot but they won't be begging you for money. I'd claim something similar and it would seem realistic if I claimed I was just another lottery winner statistic who squandered away the winnings frivolously.

One thing to remember (and I have to remind myself sometimes) is that one does not have to answer any question or provide a justification.

Turn the question around with a question. Are you having financial issues? Why else would you be so interested in what I buy? I can help you find some free counseling resources.

Trust me that they run away every time.

I had an old family member put me in a trust shortly after I was born that I never knew about I couldn't touch until last fall when an attorney called . They were allegedly invested in gold/silver/palladium is my understanding but I am not fully aware of everything. I remember talking with them when I was little kid about saving/buying silver coins but had no idea I was a part of their trust or how big it actually is.
