Another thing that's not rocket science. They're not in the red, but when the winner chooses the cash value of $27.1 million there's only going to be about $12 million in the prize pool. The non-jackpot prizes require about 22% of sales revenue, so that's about $9.5 million of the $42.7 million they took in for the two drawings. Add the $27.1 million and they get to pay out about $36.6 million. That's roughly 85% of revenue, and about $15 million more than they planned.

They can't be very happy about the last win because they took a loss of about $15 million, but they're probably glad the win didn't interrupt a run that was just starting to see an increase in sales. While it might not be obvious to some, unless it was consistently losing money (as opposed to not making as much as they'd like) they could be desperately trying to come up with a better game/idea but they wouldn't simply shut it down without a replacement.

Unlike MM/PB where buying all the combinations is logistically impossible, it's not hard to buy 100 tickets, from 00 to 99. I agree. This game is hard enough. Charging 5 dollars a ticket is a quick way to go to the poor house. Ohio created another new game for 5 dollars. Do I want to buy two or four tickets for that game or 10 or 20 for the rolling cash five. It's an easy answer. They don't want to increase the numbers anymore. Just one data point, but the first 3 drawings for 400+ had sales of $105 million compared to $117 million for the first 3 drawings for 400 the last time it got there before the price increase. That's just hair under 90%. Looking at PB sales for 3 drawings at 400+ at roughly the same times the more recent run had sales of 88% of the previous sales.

By my figures, the sales are averaging 77% of what they were in the last incarnation of the $2.00 ticket.

I suppose they're hoping for a set of rollovers lasting 9 months or more.

As of now, they're up to 15 weeks, almost 4 months.
