You have 6 months to redeem the ticket so if you win,move to the state that you purchased the ticket from if they don't tax ya.Collect and stay there

Hate to give you the bad news but if you win in Va, but live in Md, you will pay the Va 4% initial withholding at time of payout, 5.75% total tax due, plus the difference between that and Md's 9.5% state tax. And the 24% fed taxes.

Go to USA MEGA, click on MM FAQ's or PB FAQ's, scroll down past the state tax tables and read the section,

If I live in a state that taxes prizes, but bought my ticket in a state with no tax on prizes, do I still need to pay state tax?

Wtf... I thought it was computer draw. I'm l a little over an hour away from va. When my state switched to rng . I was gonna start driving out to va once a month to get pick 5 tickets. And pb and mm. If I hit the pb or mm the taxes would be lower. And I swear I read somewhere va was rng. This is wild..... Anyways thanks for the information. Va might have a new monthly player real soon....

Are u guys sure. This is from AI--------- The Virginia Lottery Pick 5 game uses a computer-generated system to determine winning numbers, not a traditional ball draw . The game features two daily drawings at 1:59 PM and 11 PM where a computer system selects the winning numbers from 0-9. The optional Fireball add-on is also determined through this digital process. I live in California, an RNG state. I moved there in 2017 and have not played the California Lottery once. If they ever switch to using a mechanical ball machine, then I will start playing.

Whenever I visit my family in Virginia, I usually play the lottery at least once because that lottery still uses balls.

part of the problem with computerized drawings is that state lotteries use third party vendors to make overly elaborate computer programs that the lottery employees themselves cannot easily audit because they're run on some proprietary systems.

an eighth grader could write a simple python or javascript program to generate lottery numbers. this is not difficult stuff. and it would be cheaper to do this in-house. but probably some lottery officials get kickbacks for outsourcing every single l... [ More ]

Lotteries make buckets of money. The cost of doing live ball drawings is a sliver of the ticket price.

I'm boycotting RNG games starting now. That means no more Millionaire for Life. All of Colorado's in-state draw games are RNG. I already put their ticket vending machines on my ban list, so there's almost nothing here for me to play because stores have such a limited selection of scratch offs.

I encourage everyone to boycott and force these people to end every RNG game.
