very good point. in the news story i think the guy was offering his unscratched scratcher as payment to settle a debt. but i suppose someone could offer up a scratcher that revealed it was a winner, while secretly the prize is already claimed. all the more reason not to accept a scratcher as payment.

Really not an issue of being noble. Her parents simply did the right thing and knew their daughter was a deadbeat and I would gave taken additional steps to get the money. My effort probably made her think twice about doing it again...but I later heard she was a lifelong scammer.

Her parents most likely only thought that she owed you the $100 not technically $135. It was still noble of them to send you $100 for their grown adult daughter's $100 grift. My Parents would have made sure I paid you back from my own money.

someone once tried to pay me back with collectible cards. i declined. i also know someone who was once owed money and the other person tried to pay them back with scrap copper. people be weird out there.

Many years ago in my first real job and a move to the big city, a friend (not a close friend) from college was at a conference in the area. We met up and had lunch and she asked to borrow $100 because her debit card or something did not work. Gave her cash and she wrote a check that bounced when I deposited it.

One time I purchased 10 $10.00 scratch off, and didn't win anything back.

Of course I was playing with previously won lottery money.
