Those are all tragic stories as are other similar ones. There should be some kind of law that people who think they have a right to other people's lottery winnings should receive really harsh punishment.

The tragedy wasn't that Abraham Shakespeare won the lottery. The tragedy was that his generosity and trust were turned against him.

these are just a few. the shakespeare case got a lot of coverage for how bizarre and long running the scam was, but they're all pretty tragic.

A good original question. I would say without a second thought Abraham Shakespeare. He seemed like such a decent human being and Dee Dee Moore is evil incarnate. Abraham met the devil and lost.

Too bad she did not get the death penalty. I would have paid $ to flip the switch.

I was going to post that Jack Whittaker is a very close second to Abraham Shakespeare, but didn't post it and only focused on Abraham. But it wasn't Jack's niece who died, it was his granddaughter who died at 17 of an overdose, I don't understand why Jack thought it was a good idea to give a drug addict $2,000 a week in allowance. :( And then his daughter died shortly after her. If I could reverse one lottery winner's tragedy, I would choose Abraham Shakespeare. Abraham was a legitimate good guy who won the lottery and used a huge bulk of his winnings to help other people, including people who didn't help him in his own times of need. He even brought a complete strangers full cart of groceries and gave her money on top of that. Abraham was a good Samaritan. Dee Dee Moore a snake in the grass found out that Abraham won millions in the lottery and decided to sink her fang... [ More ]
