Forum participation itself does not change the odds; the lottery system does not know who is reading or posting. Each valid ticket has the same published chance, so buying more tickets changes your total chance only because you have more entries, not because of a strategy. For scratch-offs, I separate the printed odds from the live prize picture: the odds are set when the game is issued, while prizes claimed and remaining can change. The same reason there are more QP winners, simple stats... there are more QP players. Just like the number of forum users here is impressive, but no contest against the number of players who have never been here. LP has impressive stats for a long time, but we barely scratch the surface of the number of players that play but never heard of the LP or any other lottery forum.

That's a terrible analogy. Driving a car is not random. It's a skill. There are zero skills involved in playing the lottery -- whether you pick your own numbers or buy a QP, your chances of winning are the same.

That being said, forum participants do have a chance to discover a player's advantage, such as the Mississippi Lottery's triple payout on pick 3 they did recently. I was going to go there and cash in but their promotional fund ran out before I had a chance to go there.... [ More ]

While the media often portrays winners as people who don't use strategies usually older men or women there are also those who do use strategies. Would it be something like an 80/20 split, where that 20% represents forum-based strategies

if I were to use an analogy of driving a car in relations to the lottery

you could ask who has a better chance of becoming a skilled driver

someone who shares on a forum driving skills and learn from the mistakes of others or someone who takes their chances on the road and learn from the school of hard knocks

Neither player has better odds on a per-ticket basis.

Mathematically, the probability of any specific combination winning a standard lottery draw is identical, regardless of how the numbers were chosen or whether the player analyzes patterns on a forum.
