Several years back,Ohio had a drawing for lotto losers. You could send in your loosing tickets and they were drawn for a prize. It turn out a lot of the winners were from Cleveland and worked in the post office. It seem when lotto officals got the mail bags they would take out envelopes from the top of bags for the drawing and dump the rest. Just one problem, most of the envelopes at the top of the bags belonged to postal employees from Cleveland. They got wise when they figured a lot of people

Dear RJOh: Well, my proposal would give you a MUCH BETTER chance to win $5 than the OH 6/49 or the 6/51 Mich. Millions. The current PA game usually pays just $2 for a three-number match...and remember the Super-6 automatic quick-picks! (I don't mind getting an automatic quick pick as a _prize_; example: NY Take Five, but it isn't quite fair to have to BUY the ticket and not be able to select all your numbers.) Super-6 Lotto will soon be three years old-PA just didn't think this concept out v... [ More ]

Don't look for that to happen. That would be 1:67 chance of winning $5 back. Those kinds of odds just cost too much even if more people would be interested.

The Pennsylvania Lottery has offered several oddball lotto games, beginning in the mid-1980s. The current regular game, Super-6 Lotto, has a 6-of-69(!!) matrix, with THREE plays for a dollar; however, for those of us who prefer to pick OUR numbers, two of each three games are AUTOMATICALLY quick-picked ! There has been some talk of a joint Ohio-Pennsylvania lotto game. Let's change Super-6 to a 6-of-67 game, two plays for $1, OPTIONAL quick picks, a $5 prize for matching three numbers, and m... [ More ]

Thanks, billyloco. I found it pretty fascinating myself. It's sad when something like that happens because a lot of people are fairly suspicious about lottery handlers. Unfortunately, I don't think the state lotteries do a terrific job of making people feel at ease. Even though the drawings occur live on TV, the state lotteries don't go out of their way to share a lot of the behind the scenes stuff, such as how they protect against fraud. That's why I liked the article -- it really spells out how... [ More ]
