RJ: Since Ohio isn't part of a multi-state game, and probably isn't about to sell tickets for one, it needs big jackpots in their 6/49, even if it means you lose with three numbers, and win just $5 by matching 4-of-7. The Hoosier Lotto (6/48) pays $3 for three numbers, and a free play for just TWO NUMBERS, because it doesn't need an occasional $100 million jackpot since they have Powerball. The new Michigan Millions 6/51 should have been modeled on Hoosier Lotto instead of your 6/49. Good luck S... [ More ]

I just checked, I match 3 three times and got nothing, but the loto jackpot is up $8M to $44M for sat. I played 5 sets of numbers in Biggame on 6/26 for five draws and I know I will have $4 when I go back to Michigan to play again. I think Ohio believes it will attract more players with a big jackpot than it will lose by not paying anything out at the lower levels. Who knows, it may be right. A lot of people will be playing for this weekend jackpot.

RJ: Since you live in Ohio, I live in New York, and we're separated by Pennsylvania, those of us who live in one of these states need to push the three state lotteries to allow a multi-state game, and/or improve the marquee jackpot game from each lottery. The NY Legislature prohibits the NY Lotto game from returning more than 40% of sales in prizes, and, the PA Super-6 game does not allow players to select all their numbers (you get three games for a dollar, but, 2/3 of your games must be QUIC... [ More ]

I live in Ohio and just played the OhioSuperLotoPlus because the next best game is two hours away. I play the Powerball and the Biggame when I get to Indiana and Michigan. When Ohio lottery was doing good, it attracted players from Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky but they got a better game now and they don't come to Ohio to play any more, any many ohio players on the boarder play in the other states. Many players prefer the other lotteries because they pay better at the lower level. Until Ohio ch... [ More ]

Patrick,I agree on all counts. There are some state lotteries that are just plain obvious about their desire for larger profits and hurt the lump-sum option. For those who weren't aware of it, the way it's supposed to work is if you choose the lump-sum cash option, you should get the exact same amount of money that the lottery would normally invest in order to pay off the annuity payments. This usually comes to about half of the total annuity payout. But some states will actually give you less t... [ More ]

Todd, as you know, I live in New York, but, I follow the progress of other states' quest for big jackpots. One thing you did NOT mention is how Ohio discriminates against lump-sum winners by using a smaller cash value (15-20%) than for those who take the annuity (30 payments.) Ohio needs to join a multi-state game (any more on a proposed joint game with Pennsylvania?) There will be a Lotto South beginning shortly after Labor Day; Kentucky will have another mega-jackpot game to lure Cincinnat... [ More ]
