Whether you not you can sell the annuity, playing a game with NO CASH OPTION is very unwise. Suppose the Massachusetts winners receive annuity payments through a company that turns out to be the next Enron.

The Rock says: bottom line cash only is absolutely correct if you win take the cash option because you cannot trust people when it comes to alot of money. Do not even trust the banks and their FDIC insurance stuff with the feds. DO as The ROck will do and build a air tight vault in your basement and store all your money.If ya smell what The Rock is cooking.

although you may get a smaller amount there are places that will buy annunity payments for cash. I would check with an attorney and an accountant first. They buy at a substantial discount. I have heard some lotteries do not allow this type transfer of annunity.John

If someone wins an annuity, I don't think the player can dictate which _charity_ they wish to benefit.

It could be left as an option for players to have their s.s. number on the slip. Although the lotteries may not see it that way. You are right in a persons privacy on how much they play.John

Whenever I travel to Ga to purchase tickets for family or friends they must fill out playslips for their numbers as I have extra playslips available. If I were to buy six quickpicks for six people and one of them hit something they would be pod as to who should have had that qp ticket.John

A lottery ticket has to be paid for. So, if I spend CASH to buy a lottery ticket, shouldn't I be allowed to receive CASH (ie, lump sum) if I win? Actually, even in sweepstakes, giveaways, and the like ( no purchase necessary ) I don't believe in mandatory annuities.

As a lottery player, isn't it always better to have a choice of cash OR annuity? Does it make any sense that the 6/42 and 6/49 games in MA remain annuity-only even though Big Game players in MA _are allowed_ to collect in lump sum

When ever I travel to Michigan to get some Biggame tickets or to Indiana to get some Powerball tickects, I always get a request from friends and former co-workers to pick up some extra quick pick tickets for them. If I had to have their S.S. numbers for their tickets, they wouldn't get any tickets.RJOh

Have you seen the numbers of people standing in line when the jackpot is over $100M. Do you really think the clerk have time to punch in that kind of information or if you could put it on the lottery cards that people would want someone to record how much they spend on the lottery every year. If a player is really interested in his winning ticket he will check his tickets after each draw.Jack

To the forum, Every time I see where a lottery prize is not claimed I wonder why a players s.s. number is not available for entry on each ticket. The lotteries have other data on the tickets for info.Why not your s.s. numbercontact your state lotteries and ask why your s.s. number can not be entered on the ticket. Your s.s. number can also be valid proof of ownership in the event the ticket is lost,stolen or destroyed and your prize can be collected without it. After a certain lenght of time the... [ More ]
