How much did your friend play. If he had played the ny lottery and gotten 3 numbers he'd have received 1 dollar. Did he expect to be the one in 136 million winner? Take the seven and buy 7 tickets in the next draw.

Remember there are nine ways to win in Mega Millions. The odds of winning any prize in NY Lotto 6/59 per dollar is 1 in 46 with the minimum prize $1, while the odds of winning any prize in Mega Millions is 1 in 43; minimum prize $2.

NY (and Ohio) are welcoming Mega Millions with open arms. The NY Lotto 6/59 returns only 40% in prizes, vs 50% in Mega Millions.
