I think he was blowing smoke, because he never revealed it. In the U.S., you can pick your numbers any way you want and play as many as you have the time and money to play. In fact a few years ago, there was a group that tried to buy all the possible combinations in the Virgiana lottery when the odds were smaller and they won the jackpot.
