Sandy: When they hit Lotto in the early 1990s, no East Coast lottery game offered a cash option. (I don't think Lotto VA started theirs until 1997.) Since they were already receiving annuity payments, playing a Win for Life -type game made no sense. ( Lifetime prizes don't have an easily figured cash value, unlike those that are paid over a finite period, eg 20 annual payments.

People are strange; they never cease to amaze me. But, on the news tonight, it was stated that they bought houses for their 3 kids, so maybe they just decided to do the same thing again. Could be incorporating it into their will for later after they died..........who knows.......I really think only an idiot would not take the lump sum but people do strange things...................

RE one of today's homepage stories: They won a Lotto Virginia jackpot over a decade ago, so they are still receiving annuity payments. Given that, their advancing ages (65 59) and that they've fought cancer, you would think that the would have vowed to play for a LUMP SUM if they were to hit the lottery again.
