Curt: How many numbers are in a lotto game means very little to me. If NY Lotto 6/59 had a 50% prize pool, with a $3 prize for matching three numbers, and, the rest of the additional prize money added to the four-number prize, I would not be complaining about NY Lotto (except for the requirement that players must choose cash/annuity _when_ we play.) BTW, Lotto Texas may soon become a 6/59 game, $1-a-play...however, Lotto TX has a _55%_ prize return

In the early days of modern US lotteries (1964-75), it probably was typical for states to pay winners just 40% of the prize pool. These days, players often win back 55% or more overall. The dinosaur called NY Lotto (currently a 6/59 game) has the WORST prize return of any US lottery game, 40%. The large population of NY state and neighboring areas is why NY Lotto continues to pay winners so poorly. The game is beginning to crack though; the jackpot went up only $2 million with the latest rollove... [ More ]
