cash,are you SURE that if you win the powerball that you will take the lump sum ? no kidding around now you have to finally make a decision about this ? you keep going back and forth on the issue. i don't want to see you do something foolish. take my suggestion. if you win, choose the cash option !!!! (jk-lol).......vision - the jackpot isn't high enough for me to drive to south carolina to play powerball. plus my car blew a head gasket last nite (lol) - dude

never let a lottery assign you THEIR annuity. if you have fears about handling money, take the LUMP SUM then shop around for your own annuity. once you are assigned an annuity from a lottery, you are stuck with it for it's duration. unless you sell it for pennies on the dollar to a lottery/annuity purchasing firm. you lose control over YOUR money with the annuity option. the object of the game is control. if you structure your own annuity and you need some more liquidity , you have the option o... Secret: Mr Sharp was supposed to collect his last check this month; Mr Post would in 2013. Hopefully if any of us wins, we will learn from their mistakes, and not be saddled with years of annuity payments.

But, of course, whether you take the lump sum or payments, you will still have to fight greedy relatives and pay substantial fees to financial advisors. It totally depends on how well you are capable of managing money. Curtis Sharp and Bud Post won when the annuity had to be given out, but they probably would have been broke anyway with the problems they had.

Fair enough, while annuites might have some merit in a low interest environment any return annually over 5% really kicks butt. For each interest point over 5% cash leaves annuity in the dust.

Bug: I am not against annuities per se. I simply have (for many years) been critical of lotteries requiring large prizes (other than lifetime prizes) to be paid through annuities, without giving the player(s)/winner(s) the choice of collecting the cash value of the annuity in lump sum. (Believe it or not, it's STILL a problem here in NY with high-end scratch games. And remember the Mass. 6/42 6/49 jackpot games have NEVER let winners collect in lump sum.) As for winners collect... Cash, Why is it that you are so against the annuity? I am trying to see what I am overlooking, because they don't look that bad. It seems that the annuity looks more attractive in a lower interest rate environment. They are almost even at 5% and at 4% the annuity has cash beat handily over 30yrs. Cash does skyrocket over 5%. It looks like the MUSL Hot Lotto game is benefitting from the much higher Powerball sales (if only more MUSL members had HL.) It'll be VERY interesting if there are only _two_ more PB rollovers...would PB lottery agents stay open later the 24th and/or stay open the 25th, especially if they came from countries that don't celebrate Christmas
