You didn't read what I said. If I win a big lottery prize, be it NY, Connecticut, etc, it's MY money, and I should NOT have to take annuity even if the rules don't allow it. That's why I buy most of my tickets in Connecticut instead of NY; the folks who run the Connecticut Lottery are much more respectful of their customers (lottery players).

SMD,Good point! From an average Joe, it needs to be pure and simple for him.. either one or the other. An average Joe won't think of an option you just mentioned.I agree with your point. If you take LumpSum, I have nothing wrong against buying annuities. Whether taking the Annuity option or buying your own annuities... Stick with Annuity... It just makes sense.

Annuity,Ok fair enough. Although I have a feeling he would have gotten death threats even if he choose annuity. Simply because most people would view him as having $317 Mil!One more question though, how come you advocate taking the annuity FROM THE LOTTERY? Why not take the lump sum and then buy your own annuity. Wouldn't that be better? Then you would control your money.
