California (as well as Texas and NY) need to change the rules so that the cash/annuity choice is made AFTER you win, instead of when you play.

This woman had a husband and a 10yr old son. She simply told a lie and her friends and want to be friends were so busy congratulating her, she didn't have the heart to tell the truth. She said it just got out of hand. Generally when people tell lies they expect their friends to believe them or there would be no point in telling it in the first place, but she said she happy she didn't win because she really didn't want to be bothered.RJOh

Since CA still requires players to choose WHEN they play, the reporter covering the story SHOULD have been able to find out whether he chose lump sum.

Sounds like the 44yrs old woman is a mental case. Why would anyone who can't produce the ticket and do not want the money tell anyone she is the winner. Sounds like she is setting up a scam to get a portion of the winnings when the real ticket holder shows up, it has been tried before. Any normal person who checked their ticket after the drawing and knew it was a winner, would put it in a special place so they could find it later after they had time to think.RJOh

If I were that 44-year-old woman, I would not have even HINTED to anyone I posessed the ticket (assuming she did _not_ sign the ticket when she bought it.) I've seen no mention which choice it's for.

Did the $85 million ticket holder come forward? For some reason CA still requires players to make the cash/annuity choice WHEN they play instead of after they win.
