If you read the rules it says that you will pick a 6 digit number at the start of the contest. You have to exactly match all 6 numbers to win the billion. 1 in a million chance. Pepsi or Buffet hasn't exactly put up the cash yet. Pepsi bought an insurance policy from one of Buffet's companies against someone winning.

secret:Buffett owns about 8% of Cola-Cola.Perhaps if someone wins the $250 million cash (why on earth would ANYONE want the 40-payment balloon annuity?), Buffett would need to sell Coke shares to pay off the Pepsi winner.

Now that you mention it, Warren Buffett lives in Omaha. He's the second richest person in the country (Second to Bill Gates, of course). I didn't know that Buffett is backing this up. Isn't he a major shareholder in Coca-Cola? He owns Dairy Queen, I know that for sure, and they serve Coca-Cola.

Secret:The billion-dollar prize is backed up at least in part by Warren Buffett (he's from Nebraska AFAIK.) It's a 40-payment annuity with a balloon as the final installment. The saving grace is the cash option; because of the unique annuity, the cash value is 25%.
