Given their ages, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would take the annuity. I know Cash Only will disagree (and I'd take the lump-sum myself), but I'd have nothing bad to say about anyone who took the annuit... [ More ]

Plus, you have more control with your money if you take the lump sum. And who knows what the inflation rates will be in 10 years. At least you can fight the inflation with interest rates from Treasury bills and tax-free municipal bonds. If the jackpot was only 10 million or 12 million, then MAYBE......

Tom:I would have to think that they most likely will opt for lump sum. They'll have a 60-day window. Did they give their ages? That's why NY needs to allow players to choose AFTER they win (even MM players in NY have to choose ahead of time.)The fact that the couple lives in a non-lottery state adds an intersting angle (would the financial/legal/tax advisers they hire have any experience with lottery winners?).
