Buying softwear

I notice that people often asked to buy or try softwear program. my experience is that if you buy a program make sure you receive a floppy disk or cd the reason if this company goes out of business or something say your computer crash how do get the program back. I only have one that still in business maxhit. I paid CASH 3 35.00 and now cant get in touch with owner. anyone else had this trouble.
