Hi. tried all stuff above/ still same prob. however this might help ueasy to check ur register I accidently found. shut down > unternetgo to start -go than to shut down-then to.> click restart in msdos mode>click yes>at prompt type >scanreg/restore then( enterkey )use. you can restore and check to see if registor has anyerrorsgood luck I am still searching

I can't download anything either. I keep getting nothing when I type in all of those things from the microsoft directions. However I am still working on this problem. when I try to download, I get an error message that I have done something illegal and my computer shuts down. If I can ever get back to where I was, I will try to install another browser. Also, I checked and found that is the oleaut32.dll is not updated, too it can affect the performance of my computer. mine is 95 and my bro... [ More ]

Hi Donna,It would only affect programs that were installed after the date of the registry you went back to. (it may not affect them at all, it would depend on the registry keys the program dropped into the registry.) I would not continue until other options have been explored throughly. My field mainly deals with hardware. I am very limited on browser issues. Try this site here for some more options. They are very helpful. bryan I did your idea to correct like little old lady. but checked and still cannot download anything on web?? I did not have that prob before I downloaded 6.0.. the only reason I downloaded 6.0 was I was not able to get online anymore with bank. I had 5.0 and 128bitconfirmed but after months of useing was not able to go on line with banking so updated to 6.0 and now I cant click any sites and go to it off webpages. soo I wish there was a easy to fix. maybe I will somehoe get back to 5.0 and... You can return your registry to a previous version by booting into dos mode (win98) and at the C prompt (C:\>) type in scanreg /restore without the quotes. It will give you dates of previously saved (good) registries. You just choose one before the problem started, if it doesn't work you could go through the method again and go back farther. if after all that work does not correct the problem and you have re-installed your software, I would suggest purchasing roxio go back from the follwoing site: http://www.roxio.com/ this one program is worth it's weight in gold if you tend to install programs and then later (2-3 days) notice something is terribly wrong..... it will litterally re-set your pc to a time before you had the problem ..I have it on my pc and have used it on a few occasions t ocorrect problems.... it does work as adver... Thank you so much..I was wondering how to type that in the run box..I thought I tried everything...stayed up til 1 in the morning. I redownloaded IE also had to download direct x...too many of its files were missing..I am still trying to think in my mind what is going on..I am NOT messing with the registry..I don't know anything about it..but I did go peek last night. Hi Littleoldlady and Donna, you can try what I do when this problem crops up.First: check for viruses and eliminate them if any. Both the macro and desk top. All files, drives-C:,A:, and any disks. If you havn't done this before, now is a good time! Besure and check your downloads too. Next, if you have RESTORE in your system tools use it! I went to the run box and typed in regsvr32 urlmon.dll and it said file not found make sure paths and libraries are correct..I don't know anything about registry keys or anything like that...what do I do now. I have already downloaded IE6 again...how do I check the registry

you could try updating explorer by clicking Tools / Windows Update.IE 6 may not run so good on anything other than windows XP.If you right-click anywhere on your desktop (but not on an icon or taskbar), it will bring up a small menu that will have Properties at the bottom of it... just click the blue e on the desktop...If you are viewing the forum, it's already open...just look at the top, there it saysFile Edit View Favorites Tools Helpclick Help, then on the drop down menu, clickAbout Internet Explorer to get the version info.

you could try rebooting the machine (not restart, but rather shut down and boot up again). What browser are you using? (if you open the browser, then click Help and then About , it will give you the version). The last time I saw that problem on a PC, it ended up being a corrupt Java Virtual Machine in the browser and downloading the latest version fixed it.

I am having a problem with my computer and need some help. I did not know where else to post this. When I click on a link, it will not open. Instead the window comes up but no address will show and it looks like my desktop becomes part of the web page. I have already defragged my computer, I don't know what else to do. I know there are people on this forum who are very computer savvy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am running windows 98, have 256K.
