yeah i think rjoh is definely right about the interest rates. thats why powerball changed to a 30 year annuity. it's also strange that when a jackpot hits even 200 it doesnt jump like it use to but in 2000 the economy was better off and when you worry about your job or you dont have the spare cash that effects sales.

I think everybody have a point. I know when the jackpot is $80M+, I buy extra tickets locally for MegaMillions, I usually win a $2-$10 ticket which I play the next draw even if the jackpot is won and might not play again for a while until the jackpot grows unless I win again. When I drive to Indiana to play PowerBall, I always play $20-$30 per draw for the next 2-4 drawings because I don't want to return for a while and if the jackpot is won on the next drawing, I'm buying the same amount of t... [ More ]

CO Bug,I think you're both right. CO's point was that all the $3 and $4 winners from the big jackpot draw fueled sales for the next few draws after a big win. It may have been RJOh who mentioned the multi-draw ticket theory. I'm sure both theories could contribute to the rapid initial jackpot growther, followed by a normalization of growth.

I remember someone had that idea, maybe it was RJOH. He is one of our mobile lotto players along with some others on the board. This Powerball run didn't we have a big jump the first draw, but this last rollover hasn't been that awe inspiring

when a big jackpot gets won and is in the news then it results in higher jumps in the next few drawings but a lot of people (like me) just dont want to play for the small jackpots being offered considering how bad the odds are. there are only 2 ways to go in a lottery for sales one is to have a lottery with good odds like 1:3.5 million and have prizes around 10 million when won or second have a lottery with terrible odds like 1:120+ million and have really fantastic prizes like 300 million like

Cash Only had an interesting theory in past posts, and I think it has some merit. He proposed that a certain percentage of people buy multi-draw tickets. When the jackpot gets huge, that means lots of people who buy multi-draw tickets, especially those who travel long distances to play Powerball.I've noticed that the run-up following a huge jackpot win has been very fast for Powerball, with large increments in the early-going. Maybe this has something to do with it
