Thanks Big Hitter JADELottery!I downloaded the latest Norton, rebooted and ran it...everything was clean. A buddy suggested I set Spybot to run on startup. So while I was considering this, I decided to download the latest Spybot (which says you should do every week, but I'm embarrassed to say, I haven't done in a while). doodoohead:I'm no expert, but based on your description, it sounds like the unwanted icon has written/installed itself into your registry. Don't mess with the registry if you are not sure what to do 'cause you can do much damage. Obviously, you can roll your system back to a known good registry entry if you are running Win 95/98 or ME. it sounds more like a virus than a bug. a bug is unintentional, usually is correctable and harmless. a virus is intentional, it may or may not be correctable... and they do mean to harm. is there a name associated with the icon

I have an unwanted icon on my desktop...a bug I picked up somewhere. Every time I try to delete it, it says, Unable to delete: Access is denied (disk full or write-protected; I can change the name of the icon, but not delete it). I've run Adware and Spybot, I've changed the name then searched the .ini files to see if any of them changed (no), and I've checked the Processes in Task Manager, but I don't see anything amiss (although I'm no expert, and I'm paranoid about stopping process in TM)....
