I think the problem of credit card identity thieft is a real problem for the state to deal with if they start to accept credit cards online for lottery purchases.Other problems include people over spending becoming horror stories.People claimming their child played the lottery with their card so they don't have to pay especially since they lost.People refusing to pay saying they didn't get their monies worth.Stores missing out on their five percent.One answer would be to have stores sell lottery... The only other option (besides a courier like UPS/FedEx) would be to trust the GA Lottery to hold onto your ticket and let you know if you have a winner or not. I dont think online lottery will be a possible trend in the future.The only reason I have is people are more intend to buy lottery outside from their home unless they can know the winner be4 the draw.Iottery,for 99% players,is just an amusement..dont take it too commerical

If this thing does go through, then they wont have to pay the 5% they have to pay to the retailers as hopefully more people will buy their tickets online. That means more money can either go to the state to help fund education, etc, or that 5% can go back to the players!!!!I only see the positive side of this, and I'm sure there are some negative sides also.

LA,I agree with you. I am totally for 100% freedom on the Internet, and I see no reason that I can't gamble online. Why should I have to go to AC or LV to play blackjack? Why should I have to go to a store to play the lottery? It makes no sense to me. Besides, opening up online gambling would allow the government to make a LOT more money by regulating the industry -- which in turn would LOWER MY TAXES

Vince,Yes, I agree there are MANY reasons, including the ones you specified, why I think it will fail. The House of Representatives in any state, like in the US government, is usually the quickest to adopt off the wall laws. The Senate is usually the balancing factor, with much more considered opinions, which I believe it will be in this case.However, I disagree on the trust thing you mentioned: I trust the sites I link to on the left side of the page -- I use them almost every week.

Another thing people are forgetting in this debate is how will the GA Lottery get you your ticket? It is currently against USPS regulations to allow the mailing of lottery tickets across state lines. This restricts states like VA, which offer a subscription play by mail option for their jackpot games, to only allowing those with in-state mailing addresses to play. I don't think it will pass either - too much politics involved. Regardless of location, a lot of times one part of the legislature will pass things knowing the second part will kill it. That way they keep proponents happy by passing it in one place and keep the opponents (like the convenience store owners in this case) happy by killing it and not making it law. What could work would be if retailers could charge up cards like they do phone cards for people to use online, so you don't have to visit the store daily to play your numbers with gas going over $2.00 a gallon.
