Eddie, I've only been to the dog track once, and I think it was Dairyland too...but didn't have much luck. I was handicapping them as I would thoroubreds, but they're a different animal (no pun intended) and a different handicapping process. However I think my method of tracking exacta pairs would work with them as well. Brdman, you are right. Short fields notwithstanding, there is a distinct edge of 1 through 6 in the winner's spot.The 7 and 8 are next with a distinct edge over 9 and 10.11 and 12...well, i wouldn't be betting on them at this time.Good luck, we may get sloppy this afternoon.

Sandy, you had mentioned in a previous post that PINK didn't like it when it was wet out. I went to the OTB and placed some $2 bets for my son and I then went to watch the races and was dismayed that the track/turf was so wet. We were only out $16 so it was no big deal. PINK is a good looking horse though. The one good thing that came out of this is the odds will be decent for her in her next race and they say racing on a wet surface gives a horse a good workout for his next race.So keep me... Sorry, Rick.....Pink Champagne looked awful although Gimme Some Love looked pretty good for awhile.For some reason, Pink does not like it when it is wet out........when she races then she is awful but put her on dry turf, she is awesome. Both Pink Champagne and Bobby Franco's horse scratched. I forgot that Pink only races on turf. With all the rain in Illinois, the turf was too soft. She is too nice a horse to take a chance with. Maybe next time.Too bad, you could have picked the exacta and probably got it right in that race. Oh well, tomorrow's another day.

Okay, Mr. Rick.........I got the scoop on the 5th race at 3:15 Michigan time...I think that is 2:15 Illinois time.........Race 5 at Keenland.....TVG racing channel.Pink Champagne is the favored to win. She is racing in the 5th race at 3:15 I believe on Thursday at Keenland. It will be on the TVG channel (the racing channel). My son told me to allow 10 minutes either way so I don't miss my taping it. Those horses are like my grandbabies. I tape everything I can. Brdman, just checked the first 3 races today at Haw....you almost had the first race tri. but the #1 didn't come in for you.You probably know these judging by your picks but for any newbies, program #'s in hot to cold right now are3, 1, 2, 6, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 9, 11, 12.My favorite exacta today was 3-1 and it hit in the 3rd for 41.00. You're funny Brdman....I used to do just what you're doing, following many tracks daily. If I hadn't got into the pick-3 I'd still be doing it.One reason I like the pick-3 more is that the betting is more convenient. At one time they were talking about incorporating horse racing betting into the lottery terminals, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. I will keep my eye on them!I've broken down the amounts of bets that would have to be played and these are by program numbers for Fri.'s card, based on probable payoffs, bias and overdue. The key might be to eliminate the exactas that have come in earlier in the card to lower your bets in the future races.. Rick,My son has a horse named WALL STREET AFLEETWatch out for him.............he is gonna be awesome. He had some problems for awhile but he is back in full swing now. He races at Hawthorne frequently. Just thought you might want to follow him. My son has another race horse named PINK CHAMPAGNE who is more awesome but she races across the country in the 2 year old filly class. She is making a mark, that's for sure. Just to clarify myself...when I list in order of favoritism, it has nothing to do with the odds. It simply means I'm ranking them from left to right for the most likely to come in today to the lesser likely.For example today, I think the 1-3 has the best chance of coming in. Once it comes in, it might be wise to look at the second combo, and so on. Just another idea...there's a whole lot of ways this can be played. Teej, no I don't play all combos every race The exactas that I'm listing are to be considered in all races. Look back at my previous posts for ideas on how to play them. You have to remember, I'm playing on paper not at the track and I don't know probable payoffs etc.However you would have made money playing them all yesterday...had 5 winners out of 10 races...52.80, 26.40, 76.80, 37.80, 21.80. Sorry to keep posting, but the way I'm going to play it at the track on Sat. is to jot down the combos with probable payoffs of $50 or more at the beginning of the probable payoffs monitoring, not at the end. That way we can take advantage of an exacta underlay that has a good chance with some money being bet on it, and it won't be a $10.00 payoff. Trainers play the distance game all the time getting their horses in shape for a win, and you have to watch what distance the horse likes to win at. Because you don't have to go to 10..but only 6 or 7...your patterns should be easier. But racing is not quite as random because of the horses talent or the trainers intent. Laverne, sorry I wasn't clearer when I referred to small fields...I meant the number of entries in the races. While a full field would mean 12 entries, a short one would be like Hawthorne is averaging per race, in the 7-8 range. If you can see any background on any of the horses whether they have recently ran in short races or perhaps just coming off of a long field, that may have a bearing on who will be the winner. Brdman, a $6,000 tri. would have covered a lot of future bets!My 2-5 combo came in the 2nd race today for $40.00. If I was actually playing, I'd probably stop betting on it for the day and be satisfied with the $8.00 investment for the $32.00 profit. Oh..just read your message.....I post Strictly by post position. But I need to be there to throw out the bad races.ie..races with too many favorites in my picks. I'm going to pick up a couple racing forms today...analyze the races and try to improve my picks with post position picks. But these post position picks do work I think. At Aqueduct last week I would have hit a $6,000 tri.

I looked at the morning line again and 2-5, 5-2 might offer a decent payoff in the 2nd race too. #2 is 3-1 and #5 is 12-1.Brdman, I should explain...my picks for the day are based on post positions (from the entries, not program #'s). My tracking is based on program #'s. I don't want to spend the time cross-checking post positions with program numbers and they are usually the same. How are you doing your tri's, post or program #'s

Well...the 4-5 pair mentioned in my last post as best for the day came in as 5-4 in the 4th race and paid $201. Looks like the 4-5 is a good exacta bet for all races.

Gutgnt, we must have been posting at the same time. I totally agree with you about picking the right payoff, not necessarily the right horses. In backtesting, I had two exactas pay off in the $450 range....now you KNOW those weren't favorites! lolThanks for participating.

Thank you Brdman! It's nice to see a fellow IL horesplayer in here. I also used to do what you are doing with the tri's. But the exacta is a lot easier. I used to spend hours each day handicapping (I used to have a horse racing website), but I think the game can be more profitable playing it as a random number dvent.I just started doing this exacta thing a few days ago, so it's still in its infant stages and the meet is young. The only way to beat horse racing is to hit numbers blindly resulting in nice payoffs. Staying away from what the public bets is all the better. I advise finding horses with morning lines less then that at the track and the bet those accordingly but I like the fact you only bet exacta combos of more then 50 bucks. Good post.

I'm still amazed someone else thought of this. I have been following 4 tracks and picking trifectas based on my pick 3 system. I have had to adjust it it a little, but have hit a ton. The problem is I am using 4 numbers. Thats $24 for a one dollar tri. And you are very correct...you have to be there to stay away from playing low paying..and losing tri's.
