Jake,Thanks for motivating me to consider the problem of odds and wheeling. As we discussed, I have an intuitive sense that restricted wheeling lowers one odds with multiple tickets. Still, your response at first set me back a bit, because of your statement about the odds for the second ball being higher in a wheel.I have now a better, more formal demonstration of why restrictive wheeling reduces odds overall, consistent with my intuitive feeling. I'm pretty busy right now and don't have time... [ More ]

I am not someone who tries to figure out what the next number might be, but if you consider it in the fun and interesting category instead of the I know I'm going to get rich soon category, what's to make fun of? Obviously winning MegaMillions is insanely difficult to win through guessing or picking random numbers, and it's insanely difficult to win even if you are a total whiz at probability and whatever system might work - but if you think it's fun to try a system, go for it and see if it... [ More ]

Dragon my two cents worth. I have had co workers question me about buying lottery tickets. Saying why do I spend so much time looking for number combinations and trying various methods to hit numbers. Many of these co workers don't play the lottery or even give it a second thought. However when I do hit say a pick 4 for $5000 big dog dollars or more they would come to me and ask how I managed to hit for that much. I tell them it only cost me a buck. There usually reply is oh! Of course, there are also lots of people who won with quick-picks.
