ok. in PA, the books usually have $185 in winners (give or take because the top prizes have to be somewhere). that $185 could come in the form of 185 $1 winners, or 1 $100 winner, a $50 winner, a $25 winner, and a $10 winner. the only people who know is the lottery.

Don't rely on a theory that says if you buy a bunch of losing tickets in a row that the next winner will be larger to compensate (e.g. once I bought the last 15 tickets from a book of a $1 game - the first 13 tickets were losers, then the 14th ticket was a winner and the 15th was another loser. The payoff on that ticket that followed 13 losers? One dollar.

believe it or not, I've found that at least in MASS. it's just superstition to say the winners are at the beginning, or the end. I've had big winners from just about everywhere in the book, including the first ticket, and the last ticket. it is absoutely correct that if you can stand by and watch someone go through a bunch of losers, the odds are that something is coming. that is a great strategy. Do what the sales people do, watch what instant games most people are playing,then if there isn't a big winner in the last 15-20 tickets purchased your odds are good that there will soon be a big hit. You will need to waste a lot of time loitering in the store watching what others are playing. People who work in the store where I purchase my tickets told me they have done this many times with considerable luck.

Scratch offs are good for wining 100 or 200 dollar prizes but you have to know how and when to play. Never play alone, usually I go to 7 11 and I play only if there is some other guy already playing, usually supermarkets are not a good place to play cuz no body buys tickets there. Always play the same kind of ticket, I have played wild millions and now I play corvette($5) in massachusetts.

i think that all $20 games, and some (maybe holiday) $10 games should have prizes less than the cost of the ticket. CT has a $30 game, and not all tickets are winners. people who buy those tickets are just stupid.

A few thoughts:The worst scratch tickets (usually $1 games) have still a 1 in 5 chance. At best, some more expensive ones have 1 in 3 to 4 chances. I like the way the lottogist knows what is going on. I just bought 20 of the IL $5 Anniversary game. I have done this many times before. Usually I can expect to get 50 bucks back. Have hit for a 100 and 500 before. I will scratch them off later tonite to find out what I have got. People that buy books should be smart enough to realize that they will prob be getting only 50% back if they dont hit a big winner. But buying a book as opposed to one ticket cuts your odds ( for this IL $5 game

I just hit $500 on the new corvete game here in massachusetts. I have been playing the game since it came out a moth ago and I might have spent 400-500 dollars, cuz i usually buy 4 five dollar tickets in a row. Scratch offs really suck cuz even if u win it wont make a difference.

I don't recommend buying scratchers unless you get a feeling while standing there buying your real lottery tickets. If you do buy scratch off tickets I'd suggest sets of three or five at a time from a fairly new game.BobP

I know someone who one 500,000 on a scratcher he never bought one before and didn't want to buy the one he did his wife asked him to get it for her.I have spent less than 300 on scratchers and won countless small prizes and one 9,000 dollar winner. Guess it all depends on what size horseshoe fits.

Today at the store in NJ, we had a woman who purchased 10 $2 scratch-off tickets in the Breeders Cup game. Nj Lottery website posts odds as average 1 in 6 wins. She scratched them right there in the store and she lost on all 10 tickets. She purchased an 11th ticket and won $10. So she walked away losing $12. I used to play scracth offs but The vegas odds on scrach off is like an overall 30% winning percentage. If the ticket says 1:4..it means versus all of the same ticket being sold all over the state..it does not mean you will win time if u buy 4 tickets. Everytime i get the urge I go buy a powerball quick pick..

What I don't like about the MA Corvette ticket (and the Harley Davidson ticket from about a year ago) is that stupid prize package winner (The Corvette package is a logo-festooned leather jacket, bag and sunglasses allegedly worth $456 - I forget what the HD package was). What good is that going to do someone if they win - at least if you win the car you can sell the ticket for a decent amount of money but I bet you'd be lucky to get $100 for a jacket and bag ticket.

I work in a store but just one day a week as an extra job. I've been there 4 years and I've never seen a big winner. We did have one person who won a trip on a scratch off ticket. A few folks hit for $100, but nothing major. I've tried tracking certain games when a customer buys 4-5 in a row and doesn't win. Occasionally I will buy the next ticket and it might pay $5 or $10. Buying a scratch off ticket worth a decent amount is like walking down the street and finding a roll of twenties in the gutter it might happen once in your lifetime. Then again it might not. one night at my old work, a lady bought approx. $550 worth of tickets ($5 and 10 tickets) looking for the $100 winner . she wound up winning back $235. net loss for her of $315. long story short, don't spend more than $3 on a ticket. This lady bought almost 2 books of this one game.

Many different theory's on scratch tickets. All of the above are valid points on the subject. it comes down to the right place at the right time. the overall odds of say 1 in 4 is a winner, is based upon the TOTAL number of wining tickets (whether it's a dollar, or two, five, ten, twenty, etc) VS. the total number of tickets produced. Scratch tickets actually have the highest payback % of lottery games (not counting video lottery, etc.) Just make sure you avoid ANNUITY-ONLY scratches (still a big problem in NY and Massachusetts).

People have luck at different things, take those scratch offs with game show wins for money prizes and you see people who have been on the show more than once and here you've maybe sent in tickets and never had one ticket chosen, or you see someone on there who says they sent in only one ticket and it was picked, I think it's a luck thing, that's not meant for everyone. I've read the odds on the back also and can but 20.00 worth and never get a winner.

Last week i went in a scratch ticket rage and spent $500. I bought 5 ten dollar tickets and only got 10 bucks back. Then i got a lot of 5 dollar tickets and got almoast nothing. This is definitly not a good time to play scratch in Massachusetts. There is nothing out there mayby during christmas there will be some prizes around.

i have a tip.. dont buy themthe prize amounts they have now dont even excite me.. its like 4 top prizes of 30,000 and everything else is 5,000 and lower.. they used to have 3 prizes of 50K, 25k and 10k.. apparently the lottery commission realized people dont like to buy a ticket after all the top prizes have been won. hence the new crappy prize layout

I don't play scratch-offs, you have no control over your choice of tickets. Your betting that the one retailer out of thousands that you are buying your tickets from has the big prize winner. If you plan on playing scratchies, check with your lottery commision to see what prizes have already been won. Why buy a scratch-off if the jackpot prize tickets have already been sold.That some control if you're going to play any type of lottery.

It depends on the scratch of game as to whether or not to buy or play. Some scratch of games have lots of small high tear winning tickets. Some games who have $1000 top prize they might have twenty of these tickets floating around in your state. Whereas the high tier 5 and 10 dollar tickets might only have one or two top tier prizes with smaller prizes thrown in. I was thinking about playing, it seems $2 tickets are best bets, though $5 and $10 have slightly better odds..but what about those odds..1:4, does that mean in theory you will win 25 times out of 100..I have seen players at stores get 10 tickets and win nothing in a row. what about rolls, how many in a roll? 200 games? if 1 in 4 applies there should be 50 winners per roll, but probaly 40 of those wins are for $1 or $2.?Should you buy more then a few tickets from the same game at the same time, o...
