I work in a Lotto Store, and we card teens. Must be 18 to play.I see a lot of sick players come in and play up to $140 a night on scratchies and leave disappointed. The most interesting thing about working there is all the tickets with winners I find in trash. The first month I found over $400 bucks. I now use the money found to play my Cash 3. I voted don't buy , because here lately Texas scratch-offs suck-I haven't won in 3 months- when I stopped at a little hole-in-the-wall gas station in a town of pop.738,bought one $5 ticket (blazing 8) and won $400

Everybody has the right to dream big. I would much rather see a homeless person hit the jackpot then the guy who won in 2000 shared the 360 milion jackpot and then said in an interview that its not big deal for him.

M.Y.O.B.live and let live.I can't remember where I read it (probably here somewhere) but don't some states make people pay back certain things out of jackpot winnings? I know they do that in PA with back child support...I may not agree with betting money you can't afford to lose, but I would never assume it was my place to say anything....

Forth choice, the states could consider not making crimes out of things that are hardly criminal. It isn't as though lottery is a gateway to gambing and pinball/video arcades are perfectly healthy. Oh well, wonder what the outcome by now would be if I had bought a lottery ticket a week out of my paper route money and won an amount exciting to a kid. Would I be any crazier or saner about the lottery by now? BobP

Well Bob there are only 3 other choices: He claims the money and gets nothing at all or the parents claim the money for themselves and do whatever they want to do with it, or he gives the ticket to a friend or somebody else to claim the money and then share the money between them, he has to take a chance and trust somebody and maybe get some money or not, or claim the money for himself and get no money for sure.There are not too many choices, maybe give the ticket to an older brother or sister a... Homeless or not, any State lottery official's and/or the game doesn't put a limit to whom can purchase their state lottery tickets. Everyone has a chance in their life to have a feeling of luck, and hopes of winning something. I, myself, would rather see someone who works hard at earning an income and supporting their famlies winning the lottery, or a homeless person hitting the Jackpot than some millionair or a more wealthy person win it, who really doesn't even need it.

Why on earth would you want to stop a person - any person from buying a lottery ticket. Why don't you instead try stopping someone from buying alcohol or cigarettes. All of these devices are legal, but alcohol and/or cigarettes have a much more negative effect on society than does the lottery. When I play it doesn't have any affect your family. But if I drink too much and decide to drive home - then I can not only affect my life, but your life as well. Sure there are better ways to spent limited... [ More ]

What burns me up is the people on welfare buying lottery tickets. Is is our money buying them. I worked in a store with lottery. Then when they do not have money they are asking you to buy bread or milk for them.

The type of person who would feel it's their duty to tell someone not to buy lottery tickets are the same type to come forward when someone wins talking a bunch of none sense about being a good steward and distributing the winnings to others. I would feel just as good telling them it's none of your business while collecting my winnings because they are just plain nosy people.RJOh

I would tell the homeless person, good luck! I was just thinking about the homeless or, taking it one step further, the park drunks who are always asking for a handout to buy more liquor. Some of the homeless are not broke; they have a couple dollars or even more (if their $$$ isn't stolen). Finally, they should play...perhaps if they win -- they can help themselves. Remember, our taxes pay for them, too.

Regardless of whatever you want to say or do, you can't and if you did, in many cases it would not do any good, you can try, but many of them might feel the same as RJOh, you can always do as George Sedertree did, I will not say that RJOh is right, but I won't say that he is wrong either.BobP Lotto Logix is a very good and nice site.

I agree with RJOH as will. If someone told me how to spend my money I'd head butt them grab their money and spend it for them on something they dont want and give it back to them.Oh and good on ya George for giving the guy some cookies and coffee. You get that warm fuzzy feeling when you have helped someone and they really appreciate it.

When I see a person poorer than me buying lottery tickets with money he earned, I think he would feel the same way I feel when a stranger offer me unsolicited advice about buying lottery tickets, it's none of your dam business as long as I'm not asking you for money . Bob,I voted that it is a scam, which it is of course. You can probably still find some of my posts dealing with that issue when I still worked for a lottery retailer.It is sad to see someone in this position. Just to sort of set this up. You're driving to the supermaket and you see what looks like a homeless or very poor person selling newspapers or oranges, etc. on the street.Later you see the same person in the lobby with a stack of losing scratch off tickets buying and scratching like crazy. What would you like to say to that person? BobP
