In PA, the ticket must be scratched for a winner to be revealed. There is a 3 digit code under the latex that must be punched in before it will tell you anything. I know this has been said before, I just wanted to tell you that PA had the same security measures.

In our store, (NJ) we have to sell the tickets in order because we do an accounting twice a day using the ticket number in the process. I would not purchase tickets from a vendor who tears them off in advance. If you don't see the ticket torn off the pack before your eyes, I'd be suspicious. As a vendor, if i see a customer buy 2-3 or 4 in a row of the same game and not win, I might buy the next ticket on the hunch that it might win. There is no way for us to tell if a ticket is a winner without... [ More ]

I would guess that the person who is in charge of the lottery scratch off distribution knows which books have big winners in them. If they didn't it would be possible that a series of winning ticket books could end up in one or two zip codes instead of spread out across the state. There are numbers printed on the front and back of the ticket books/rolls these must be tracking codes as well as security codes. In Maryland if you have a winner they first swipe it thru a scanner. Then they type in th... [ More ]

Hello!I work in a gas stationthe way we find out a scratch off is a winner is by1. scan barcode2. key in 3 boxed numbers on bottom of scratched off part.....so yes the ticket would have to be scratched off, at least as far as i know, you are safe to buy scratch offs, although if they are taking the rolls apart they may be tracking for winners and i wouldnt buy from them....... :)Justin
