It makes real sense to me if you can win on a consistent basis. Here's the theoretical average for the PowerPlay Option: 2 20% 3 20% 4 20% 5 40%The weighted average is 3.8Ok, so you put down $2 per ticket for the option, spending twice as much as you normally would. But, WHEN you win a prize, you can expect a PowerPlay average of 3.8 which may more than offset the 100% ticket increase, especially if it's not a low-tier prize.Hmmmm, I've also been thinking, it may make sense, if you can manage... [ More ]

But everything changed early this year when a young woman across town from where I live played one Powerball number set for five advance draws with Powerplay. She bought her ticket late last December when we were going through some high Powerball jackpot levels. For the first four draws she didn't match a single number...not one. And then ju... [ More ]

I never purchase it simply because my gut instincts tell me that it's not a good deal. Some rather superficial number crunching indicates to me that the PowerPlay option gives players a chance to win a little more by spending a lot more in the long run. I do know people who exercise the Power Play option faithfully, but I just can't see how it's to the players' advantage. Does anyone have a definitive answer a... [ More ]
