Americas scariest highways
Angeles Crest Highway (California)
Located in the California interior, this highway heads northeast through the mountains from Los Angeles. Much of it is a two-lane road on which motorcycle and sports car drivers love to speed.

Dog Track "system"
The Canadian weather forecast thread where the guy hit the jackpot brought this to mind.

WASHINGTON Twenty-three months before the 2008 presidential election, the jockeying among hopefuls is already fierce. No fewer than two dozen men - and a woman - are running or thinking of running or being urged to run for the top spot. On an almost daily basis, exploratory committees are forming, first trips to New Hampshire are taking place, and Internet campaigns both for and against possible candidates are sprouting up....

"Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On"
In the winter of 1811-12, the central Mississippi Valley was struck by three of the most powerful earthquakes in U.S. history. Even today, this region has more earthquakes than any other part of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains.
The 400 terrified residents in the town of New Madrid (Missouri) were abruptly awakened by violent shaking and a tremendous roar. It was December 16, 1811, and a powerful earthquake had just struck. This was the first of three magnitude-8 earthquake...
