http://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?story=A_Rich_Neighbor_Named_Xerox.txt You're ripping us off! , Steve shouted, raising his voice even higher. I trusted you, and now you're stealing from us! But Bill Gates just stood there coolly, looking Steve directly in the eye, before starting to speak in his squeaky voice. Well, Steve, I think there's more than one way of looking at it. I think it's more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox and I broke into his house to st

Should there be Lost Winning Tickets Bounty Hunters?
There are already lost winning ticket bounty hunters, they're the people who sift throuh store trash bags and dumpsters for mistakenly discarded tickets. Also regular people who see unsigned tickets on the ground, picking them up on the off chance one might be a winner. Lottery Post featured a story about one older gentleman who found a discarded unsigned ticket which became subject of a lawsuit. That man was a bounty hunter of sorts .... perhaps someone can find the specific story. However i

Can he/she sue me?
i won't even get tickets for anybody (I live in a non lottery state and drive to florida to get mine). Someone said something to me the other day jokingly I ought to give you some dollars to get me some powerball tickets I said nothing in reply and i think she got the hint. I could imagine the lawsuit over that if she won; she would claim i kept her tickets and gave her mine. or if she won i would never get over it. she even said If I won i'd give you $5 for gas...hahaha um not funny.

Is it wrong to...?
You've got it completely backwards. If a friend asks you to buy them a ticket and you then play the same numbers without asking if they mind, then you're the one who isn't really a friend. It has nothing to do with whether or not they really own the numbers or if they would win a lawsuit. It's about integrity and what friends do for, or to, each other. If you asked me to drive your girlfriend home and I slept with her would you think I'd done anything wrong? You don't own her, you'd have no lega

what exactly is meant by forming a trust?
I just noticed GamerMom asked about setting up a trust before claiming a prize, so that might be if there are multiple winners. In Florida only one person can claim a prize, although once someone here told me I'm wrong. That one person or entity can be an individual or a group like an LLC or a Trust, but then the Trust or LLC is responsible for paying the taxes. In any case, if there are multiple winners, I'm sure a good attorney and accountant would know how to handle the distribution of funds.

buying lottery tickets
If play slip scanners were a new idea, I could understand because there are number of reason for false readings. But once they got the bugs out, it must be operator error unless all the clerks are having that problem. I've seen clerks try to insert slips 5 or 6 times and then watch another clerk clear the machine and the tickets are printed the first time. Race tracks have machines where you put in $20 and make your own bets. The screens are 'how much', 'type of bet', and 'which horse'. After

buying lottery tickets
Those would be great excuses had the clerk not said the machine is acting up Would you explain that to me? The machine couldn't be confused by dirt because the clerk says it's acting up? Wouldn't that be exactly what it is doing (at least allowing a broad definition for acting up )? As far as how such things would happen, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the terminal doesn't use optical character recognition, and has no idea whether the little boxes are marked with X's, Q's, ampersand

Help!! Need winning lottery advice
They shouldn't pursue this AT ALL. They will end up regretting it in the end. If the winner finds out this person is taking legal action against him, he will RECEDE the $100,000 offer PLUS they will have thousands of dollars in legal fees. They have nothing to complain about. Her dad GAVE a lottery ticket to someone else and it won. If I was them, I would just take the $100,000 if the guy hasn't receded the offer so far. They will lose the lawsuit, and could end up in the poor house when the law

You buy a 2line ticket to pool with 1 person but they don't pay the $1
I would go ahead and include them and forgot about the dollar if they don't pay me because I don't want any trouble. Typically how humans are or at least the ones i know, will nag me and tell everyone else at work and in town what i did and how wrong i was and win those people to their side and I will then have the whole town nagging me about what I did (I live in a small town where everyone knows me and a town that loves to gossip) and then press a lawsuit and all this other good stuff. I like
