Lawsuit over $315 million lottery jackpot goes to trial
Quote: Originally posted by csfb on June 8, 2006 Quote: Originally posted by konane on June 8, 2006 The lawyers are slugging it out for the money earned through their fees, the heck with whether winners get a penny.
Have heard a suggestion that if someone sues someone else and loses, loser in lawsuits pays all court costs and all attorney fees including those of the defendant .... which would likely eliminate a lot of let's file and see if they pay us to go away stuff clogging the court

N.C. Lottery has false start on logo
What Tom Sheehan need to do is keep the media guys out of their meetings and
talk on a need to know basis, especially since that lawsuit is happening.
Somebody on his staff is talking too much.
Once on my job there was going to be a layout.
A group of non-management staff went to the local bar,
got drunk and talked about the people who were being laid off.
They wasn't even suppose to know about it.
We all knew about it the next morning.
My point is:

N.C. Lottery under fire in court; Judge may suspend progress
A Superior Court judge said he would decide this week whether the state should stop work on launching a lottery while lawyers debate whether the game is legal.
A group of plaintiffs, led by former N.C. Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr, asked Judge Henry Hight to impose the delay during a two-hour hearing Monday. Orr said House and Senate leaders violated the state constitution in their rush to get the lottery passed last year.
The question is 'does political expediency trump the state consti

There are three ways to avoid paying US income tax, but that isn't one of them.
1. If you don't have any income you won't have to pay income tax to anyone.
2. If you're dead you won't have to pay income tax to anyone. In the year that you die your estate or your spouse may have to pay estate or income tax, but every year after that you'll be

A look back at the North Carolina lottery in 2005
After a more than 20-year battle, lawmakers needed a tie-breaker to finally pass their lottery bill. When they got it, opponents quickly cried out. I think we have one senator at home recently being hospitalized in bed we have another one who is on his honeymoon because he postponed it, said N.C. Sen. Andrew Brock, R-Davie.But N.C. Gov. Mike Easley, a long time lottery supporter, praised the new state game. Today I sign the North Carolina Education Lottery Bill and today we begin building one N

Win a jackpot...continue to work??
Her is a copy of something I found sometime ago about winning the lottery. Dont know where I found it or who wrote it. Some of it is quite funny, Don't Win The Lottery! Don't win the lottery! The lottery is not a path to happiness. In fact the lottery presents one of the greatest challenges to happiness. The lottery path leads to a loss of friends, a loss of loved ones, unhappiness, misery, paranoia, loneliness, and distrust. FriendsKiss your friends good-bye forever. All of them. Those whose n

Lotto Texas winner sues betting company and couriers, claims he was cheated out of $100M jackpot
Had a group known as Rook TX not spent almost $26 million to buy nearly every number combination in a Lotto Texas drawing ...
The cash value of the prize would have been approximately $8 million less than it was.
Had the defendants not engaged in their illegal money laundering and game-rigging scheme ...
It would be a shame if he lost what he did win defending and losing a lawsuit for defamation.
Remember that big fat slob, Eddie Tipton
