An Arkansas woman who cashed a $1 million lottery ticket may have to give up the winnings to a woman who threw away the ticket after she bought it, according to a judge's ruling Tuesday.
The judge decided that Sharon Duncan was entitled to the prize money, not Sharon Jones, who claimed the prize money after she took the ticket from a trash can of discarded lottery tickets at a convenience store in Beebe, a city about 40 miles northeast of Little Rock.
Jones' attorney, James Simpson, said h

A 70-year-old retired chemist is suing a convenience store chain for more than $11.5 million, claiming its employees cheated him out of a large jackpot by refusing to sell him a lottery ticket.
Charles Andrews says in his lawsuit that he picked the winning numbers for the February 2008 Hoosier Lotto drawing, but that a clerk at a Speedway store in Indianapolis refused to sell him a ticket with a few minutes left before the 10:40 p.m. official sales cutoff.
Andrews, of Indianapolis, says th

N.Y. couple wins $162M lottery jackpot - but owes $1M
Nino, don't take it personal. We can disagree without being disagreeable. Don't misinterpret passion for malice. We just have viewpoints and opinions that happen to be polar opposites. I'm not carrying any rage around, for you or anybody else, just dogged determination to resist tyranny. There's no hard feelings on this end buddy.
As far as the red light cameras go, no, I don't think they're an evil plot. Just more government intrusion in our personal lives for the sole purpose of getting mor

Lottery winner loses ticket, awarded unspent portion from couple who found it
After reading this story I was motivated to once again read the back of my playslip and ticket. On the back of my playslip under HOW TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE: The first thing the TX Lottery Commission wrote was, Sign ticket before claiming. Unsigned tickets could be claimed by whoever possesses the ticket.
I continued to read the back of the playslip and under the section RULES: The first thing the TX Lottery Commission wrote was, The ticket, not the playslip, is the only valid proof of your numb

Law creating N.C. Lottery to be reviewed by state's Supreme Court
North Carolina's highest court will decide whether the Legislature approved properly a bill that created the state's education lottery.
State Supreme Court justices scheduled oral arguments Monday in a lawsuit originally filed by taxpayers who sued state and elected officials.
At issue is whether 35 percent of the price of each lottery ticket constitutes a tax. If so, the state legislature violated the North Carolina Constitution when it approved the lottery in 2005 because it did not foll
