B.C. Lottery faces lawsuit from second problem gambler
A Vancouver Island man is suing the British Columbia Lottery Corporation because the company denied him a $42,500 jackpot on the grounds he's a registered problem gambler although the BCLC has never stopped him from losing money. At the time, Mike Lee was supposed to be barred from casinos entirely under the BCLC self-exclusion program, but his lawsuit contends that the company let him in and allowed him to gamble anyway. It's unconscionable to allow someone that has gambling issues to le

That's why state leaders are making the instant gratification of scratch-off tickets even more instant installing 1,000 ticket vending machines at lottery retailers across Florida, primarily supermarkets. ''It helps b

Oregon Lottery working to end slump
In recent weeks, Oregon Lottery officials have installed 400 new casino-style slot machines in bars and taverns across the state in hopes of boosting player interest and ending a slump in lottery play. Lottery Director Dale Penn said the plan is to install another 2,100 of the newer machines in retail establishments to replace some of the lottery's older-style video lottery terminals. We're real hopeful that we can bring some players back and encourage others to play more, Penn said. H

Ohio Lottery director resigns
Ohio's lottery director resigned Tuesday from a rocky tenure serving in Gov. Ted Strickland's cabinet, as the state tries to expand the lottery to include video slot machines at horse racing tracks. Dolan did not say why he's leaving in his resignation letter to Strickland, other than to say that he had thought about the direction of the lottery, including the new policy for slot machines. My reflection has led me to conclude that the best interests of the Lottery and the state, as well a

Keno: The Next Big Bet For The N.H. Lottery?
On a recent afternoon at the Common Grounds Cafe, 200 yards from the New Hampshire border in Methuen, Mass, a handful of men sit along a short counter or at several tables in the back of the cafe. Eyes moving back and forth from their pink and white betting slips to two wall-mounted video monitors, they wait for the next drawing of a popular electronic lottery game called Keno. We've got some regulars who come in almost every day, said Shane Bernard, who runs the cafe with his parents. An

Penn. Lottery contributions decline for first time in 6 years
Lottery Not Blaming Slots for Flat Sales Pennsylvania's lottery sales stumbled in the just-ended fiscal year as slot machines came on line finishing flat after a half-decade of huge gains spurred by bigger games, more retailers and glitzier advertising. After subtracting expenses, commissions and prize money, the lottery contributed less money to state coffers than the prior year for the first time since 2001. State lottery officials insisted the arrival of slot-machine gambling in

Lottery sales in Pa. hit record $3 billion
Pennsylvania Lottery sales for the 2005-06 fiscal year reached a record $3.07 billion, Gov. Rendell said yesterday. Sales grew by $425 million, the largest dollar increase in the lottery's 34-year history, leaving the agency with a $400 million surplus. The state will use half that money to expand property-tax and rent-rebate programs for senior citizens, said Stephanie Weyant, a spokeswoman for the state Revenue Department. The expanded rebates will go out in 2007 to pay for the 2006 tax
