Congrats on the win. Super Jelly right now lol. Nice to know about those taxes too. I may pick up one of the new $20 LFL tickets on my way back to Orlando. Will try to take some back roads to a hole in the wall place but hopefully I don't make a WRONG TURN . Don't want to end up like those guys in the movie.

For privacy, I do not want to say where exactly. That $10k (or 7.5k win after taxes taken out) was just what I needed for finishing off my auto loan. I will say I bought two books in the Central FL area. Pretty good return I say lol, and ty to the guys obsessed with this game who kept posting information about it and where I could find it. I would not have played it otherwise, I usually stick to Gold rush.

was talking to Big Jim a little while ago - he won $500K in May - sez he talked to a CPA who told him he doesn't need to save any losing tickets to deduct because he already paid taxes - the $125K they with held - Jim doesn't make much money and is in a low tax bracket and will not file a long form - the CPA also sez he will probably get a refund........ I've heard too many stories about saving/buying losing tickets to deduct .......besides that Jim sez he doesn't want to take a chance on anythi

Dad is holding out until his taxes are done. He has some minor IRS issues to work out and doesnt want to throw that income into the mix until its handled.

Adam, if you don't mind sharing, I'm curious to know if you've spoken to a professional yet about the full scope of taxes on the win. Just wondering what the overall percentage ends up being.

California lottery scratchers tax on winnings question
Can you deduct gambling costs on your taxes? Say you spent $1,000 on scratchers that year, could you put that as a deduction and how?

EMTAdam I am so sorry that your mother does not understand taxes. Since you did not claim the money with her at the lotto office I think if you give her $100,000 you will incur a gift tax come tax season. Good luck in whatever you do!-weshar75

Nice win! I hit that same combo many years ago in Vegas and won $1,500 (on a quarter slot). The good news is that you may now be able to deduct some of your scratch-off ticket losses if you itemize taxes in 2016.

Spot on Lucky, early on i was one of those die hard scratchers who would claim they are even or slightly ahead,....after a few years of experience i know thats a lie many tell themselves. Im sure there a few that are ahead, they are the exception, my good year i had to claim 20k worth winnings on my taxes, luckily i was able to write it off, that didnt touch the amount i spent that year, that was 2013, my taper isnt going very fast is it? lol, best of luck too those still a hunting.
