Would you play Euromillions if it was available in the US?
Of course if you won 100 million in cash, perhaps you would no longer live the US, and would not pay taxes. Or maybe there are some ways to minimize taxes depending how where and how you keep the money offshore. A good tax attorney would be a must in order to minimize taxes.

When do the taxes officially hit you on a big win?
Let's say someone wins a large jackpot of $100 Million on December 15, 2010. however they do not *claim* the winnings until January 15, 2011. At tax time, would this person owe the taxes from the winning when they do their taxes the following January/February of 2011 OR would the taxes not hit until 2012, based on the person claiming the win in 2011?

Yeah but property taxes (and potential city/county taxes) and other fees still certainly won't equal a regular state income tax such as Michigan's 4.35%, would it? Say you won 20 million dollars after the federal taxes, in Michigan that would equal to around $87,000 (I know I'm taking it off the wrong end but it's just an example) not to mention that states own property taxes and whatever else can get tacked on. You wouldn't expect to pay that much in fees, property and other taxes would you? I

Jackpot hit...Moving or Not??
Nah, TN apparently has taxes on interest and dividends so you'd probably end up paying them anyway. I was thinking of either Florida, Texas or Nevada. Only issue would be if there's local income taxes, but as long as whatever taxes and other expenses there may be is less than's Michigan's 4.35% flat tax rate, I'd be fine. Besides, I have family there, well only my older brother but that's still one too many.
