Congratulations!! That is an amazing win. For taxes, you should keep your losing tickets but you also need to keep a log of the ticket purchases. The tickets alone are not enough to substantiate the losses without a log to establish when you bought the tickets. It will only matter if you itemize your deductions but that is possible if you own a home, pay property taxes and mortgage interest. Enjoy the win. It was great to see this forum brought back to life.

I had ticket #s 114 (maybe also 113) through like 119, all losers. Then I think I had 122 (days apart, slow sales at this place). It lost. May or may not have had 123/124 - don't recall, if I did, they lost. Then got this one a day later. So, lots of losing tickets preceding this one. What people normally do with the vending machine tickets is scrap then scan the barcode at the bottom of the tickets. If they do that, they don't need to scratch the rest of the ticket off and ALL the tickets in the trashcan are losers. That being said, if you do have a $600+ winner that you have to file for taxes, you can use these trashcan tickets to write off your taxes up to your winning amount.

Tax Avoidance on Big Win - IRA, Multi-Split?
Wondered from time to time, the best way to keep the IRS out of a big hit, if ever so lucky. Common instruction tells you to sign the ticket, immediately... thus, setting you up solely for all the taxes. Rather, wouldn't it be better to see an attorney, pronto, prior to signing? Perhaps one who specializes in preserving family wealth? Would it not be better to have some group set up to split the ticket taxes - be it a family corporation, whatever? Having them on the win-front side might
