Elks Club members in fight over $21M lottery win
It may have once seemed like a dream come true, but a winning lottery ticket has turned into a nightmare for 21 people in Okotoks, Alberta.

Don't buy lottery tickets for kids, researcher warns
Parents who buy lottery tickets as presents for their kids are gambling with their children's futures, says a McGill University researcher.
It's really something that's common, said Alissa Sklar, a researcher with McGill's International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours.
Thirty percent of kids under 18 report having received a lottery ticket or scratch card as a gift, Skar said, citing a recent survey of children and teens in Quebec.

Canadian police accused a Toronto-area man who claimed a C$5.7 million (US$5.7 million) prize in a national lottery of fraud, the first charges in a year-long probe of Ontario lottery-ticket retailers.

Auditors find 21 unreported wins by BC lottery retailers but no fraud
Auditors studying the integrity of B.C.'s public lottery system found 21 previously unreported lottery wins of $10,000 or more by retailers who sell tickets to the public, says an independent report released Thursday.
B.C. Solicitor General John Les, who ordered an independent probe of the lottery system last May, said the discovery did not point to fraud within the Crown-owned lottery corporation that raked in $2.4 billion in revenues in the 2007 fiscal year.

Atlantic Lottery adds new ticket security measures
The Atlantic Lottery Corp. is introducing more measures aimed at tightening the security of lottery ticket validation, the corporation said this week.
Starting Monday, the corporation's online ticket terminals will print two slips whenever a winning ticket is validated for an amount the retailer is to pay, a release Wednesday said.
After validating winning tickets, retailers will be required to pay the prize, stamp the winning tickets Paid, and return them along with one of the validation
