The Arizona Lottery has taken a second computerized lottery drawing machine out of operation because it repeatedly chose duplicate numbers.

Arizona Lottery director not embarrassed about computerized drawing fiasco
The head of the Arizona Lottery says he's not embarrassed that his department overlooked a potentially costly failure of its computerized drawings.
Over a six-day period starting Sept. 28, lottery machines spit out the same numbers in consecutive games.

Lottery rigger warned officials about computerized drawing machines years ago

The mastermind behind a national lottery scam says he warned officials about a glitch in computer-generated drawings 11 years ago, but nobody seemed too worried, his lawyer revealed in an exclusive interview.
The same glitch involving identical numbers drawn consecutively or nearly consecutively occurred again in the past two weeks in Arizona, prompting state officials to offer players a refund.

Arizona Lottery computerized drawing machine generated identical winning numbers
Machine taken out of service; no explanation offered
Once again computerized lottery drawings are coming under scrutiny as a machine responsible for generating random numbers has done the opposite, generating exact duplicates.
The Arizona Lottery is offering losing ticket refunds or exchanges from four games held over a recent six-day period because a machine used for the drawings generated the same winning numbers in consecutive games.

Scratch games power increased Arizona Lottery revenues
Arizona Lottery sales exceeded $379.9 million during the first half of its 2016 fiscal year, which ran from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2015.
These numbers represent an increase of 12.2 percent over the same period during the previous fiscal year. Notably, the increase does not include the entire windfall of sales generated by the record-breaking $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot drawing which took place in January.

Arizona AG begins investigation of former Lottery director
The former Arizona Lottery director, who abruptly resigned last month following allegations of mismanagement of the agency, is under investigation by the Attorney General Mark Brnovich's office.

Arizona Lottery director resigns amid controversy
Arizona Lottery Director Tony Bouie has resigned his post in Gov. Doug Ducey's administration amid controversy and concerns about his management of the department.
Kevin Donnellan, the deputy director of the Department of Administration and a policy advisor to Ducey, has been named interim director.
Bouie submitted his resignation around 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Human Resources letter.

Oregon man claims $6.3 million Arizona Lottery jackpot

An Oregon man who purchased a lottery ticket in Arizona is now a multi-millionaire.
Frederick Hallwyler purchased a few lottery tickets while visiting Arizona, including four quick picks for The Pick drawing on Saturday, Sept. 26, from a vending machine at a Fry's Food Store in Avondale.
He returned to Portland and remembered to check his tickets three days later. What he found out was that one of his tickets matched all six numbers for the $6,285,618 jackpot.

Arizona $188.9M Powerball winner claims prize

Arizona Lottery officials say the winner of the $188.9 million Powerball jackpot has come forward to claim the prize from the June 3 drawing.
The Powerball prize money was claimed well within the 180-day time period that is given to the winner to claim the money.
