El Gordo holds annual Christmas drawing, awarding billions
People lucky enough to hold tickets with the number 71198 were blessed with thousands of euros in prize money in Spain's bumper Christmas lottery Friday.
Children from Madrid's San Ildefonso school called out the top prize number three hours after the much-followed, nationally televised draw began around 9 a.m. (0800 GMT) at Madrid's Teatro Real opera house.
The lottery, known as El Gordo, or The Fat One, will dish out 2.4 billion euros (US$2.8 billion) in prizes this year.

Lottery rigger warned officials about computerized drawing machines years ago

The mastermind behind a national lottery scam says he warned officials about a glitch in computer-generated drawings 11 years ago, but nobody seemed too worried, his lawyer revealed in an exclusive interview.
The same glitch involving identical numbers drawn consecutively or nearly consecutively occurred again in the past two weeks in Arizona, prompting state officials to offer players a refund.

Florida Lottery to resume drawings Tuesday
The Florida Lottery announced Monday that daily drawings will resume today and make-up drawings for all Lottery Draw games suspended due to Hurricane Irma will also be conducted in sequence Tuesday, September 12, with full security and auditing measures in place.
