Wyoming Legislature works on lottery bill compromise
Don't bet just yet on a bill that would allow a lottery and multistate games such as Powerball in Wyoming.
The state House of Representatives on Monday voted not to agree with changes the Senate made to the proposal despite the measure's main sponsor supporting the Senate version.
Last week, the Senate amended the bill to change how the lottery's proceeds would be used.

Wyoming Senate passes lottery bill

The Wyoming Senate voted 18-10 Friday for a bill to allow a state lottery and multi-state games such as the Powerball.
However, the bill designates revenue from the games for long-term school improvements, contrary to the bill as it came from the House. The revised measure will return to the House.

Kentucky Democrats propose taxing lottery tickets
Democratic House leaders want to add a 6 percent sales tax to Kentucky Lottery purchases and expand the selection of lottery games as a way to increase funding for the state's ailing pension system.
House State Government Chairman Brent Yonts, D-Greenville, said adding a 6 percent sales tax on lottery games could generate about $49 million a year for the state. Adding additional games to the lottery could generate an additional $70 million to $90 million, he said.

Final Wyoming Senate vote on lottery bill coming Friday
A bill that would allow a Wyoming lottery and multi-state games such as Powerball received preliminary approval in the state Senate on Wednesday.
The senate voted 17-to-12 to advance the bill. It already has passed the House and would need two more votes in the Senate. It's scheduled for its final vote Friday.

Gov. Brian Sandoval signed legislation Thursday legalizing online gambling in Nevada, capping a dizzying day at the Legislature as lawmakers passed the bill through the Assembly and Senate as an emergency measure.

A Senate committee has endorsed a bill that would bring the lottery to Wyoming.
The Senate Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Committee voted 3-2 Tuesday in support of House Bill 77. The bill, which has already passed the House, goes to the Senate floor for debate. No one is quite sure about its odds of passing.

NC lottery bill won't ban welfare recipient sales
A key North Carolina House leader says a bill he's drawing up about the North Carolina state lottery won't include a provision prohibiting ticket sales to people receiving public assistance or who are in bankruptcy.
Speaker Pro Tempore Paul Stam of Apex said Wednesday the provision was the least important part of his proposal. He said got questions from all sides on the lottery issue about the provision. Some critics questioned singling out the poor or how retailers would enforce the law.

Wyoming House committee advances lottery bill
A Wyoming House committee advanced a bill on Tuesday that would allow the state to join the multi-state Powerball lottery. The profits would go to fix county and city roads.
The sole purpose of House Bill 77 is to provide entertainment, said the sponsor, Rep. David Zwonitzer, R-Cheyenne.
