Online sales fuel increase in Michigan Lottery revenue
Since it began in Michigan last Thanksgiving, Internet lottery sales have mushroomed along with the number of players using their smartphones and personal computers to play.
In November 2015, the State Lottery Bureau, without fanfare, moved into the Internet gaming market, making it easier for players to bet from home instead of driving to the nearest lottery store to place a wager.
At the outset there were about 86,000 players who registered with the state for the Internet games.

A simple mistake turned out to be very lucky for a Niles man who won a $1 million Mega Millions prize from the Michigan Lottery.

Michigan Lottery teams with PayPal for online payments
The Michigan Lottery is teaming with PayPal to offer players a new way to fund their online accounts.
Starting Monday, the lottery says players may use PayPal to fund accounts to play online games. To make a deposit into their lottery account, players must have a balance in their PayPal account or the account must be linked to a financial institution account.
Players also may withdraw winnings and direct them to their accounts with the payments system company.

Michigan man arrested for impersonating lottery worker, stealing tickets
Lake Orion police have arrested a suspected thief who they say posed as a lottery agent at several Oakland and Macomb county CVS stores in order to steal Michigan Lottery scratch-off tickets.
Police Chief Jerry Narsh says investigators found unique clothing at the Pontiac home of David Witherspoon, 40, that also appears in store surveillance videos.
Narsh said when officers confronted him, he confessed, saying, I just have to steal.

Teen lottery winner to pay off mom's home
A Michigan teenager plans to pay off his mother's home with the winning lottery ticket she gave him.
Gabe Smith of Pewamo told the Michigan Lottery his mother bought the lucky ticket at Muir Mini Mart.
Smith, 19, said he scratched off the ticket and thought it wasn't a winner. But when he tried to enter the ticket's code into his Player's Club account, he got an error message.

Michigan man had $1 million lottery ticket in his wallet for months
Speculation swirled around Alma, Michigan, in mid-December when state lottery officials announced a $1 million winning Powerball ticket had been sold at the Speedway station on North Alger Road.
But no one came forward with the winning ticket until now.

An online auction for a lottery ticket that pays $1,000 a month for the rest of a 73-year-old Kalamazoo man's life went into overtime on Thursday, Jan. 7, ending with a winning bid of more than $40,000.
