Arkansas Lottery needs vending machines, Director says
For the Arkansas lottery to increase revenue from year to year, the lottery's director told commissioners Wednesday that they will have to approve the use of ticket-vending machines.
Director Ernie Passailaigue said businesses are seeking ways to cut labor costs, and automating the lottery is an important way to boost sales and help vendors save money.

An Arkansas lottery player claimed a $10,000 Powerball prize at Arkansas Lottery headquarters Thursday for the second time.
William J. Newberry of Green Forest Thursday redeemed a winning Powerball ticket for a $10,000 prize. This is Mr. Newberry's second $10,000 Powerball win.

Ark. lottery forced to revise budget after law change found
Arkansas' lottery director said Wednesday he wasn't aware that the Legislature changed how money from unclaimed prizes is to be managed a move that required lottery officials to revise their 2011 budget.
The revised lottery budget allocates $11 million less for scholarships and overall revenue is projected to drop by $14 million. However, the lottery has been taking in money above projections, and the original scholarship budget target of $116 million could still be met.

Arkansas Lottery sued for trademark infringement
The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is the target of a lawsuit by a man who claims he owns the trademark to names the state lottery is using.
Ed Dozier of Little Rock filed suit Thursday in Pulaski County Circuit Court, claiming that as far back as 1994 he secured the trademark to Arkansas Lottery and several other similar terms.
Dozier is asking a judge to order the state lottery to stop using the names.

Arkansas Lottery will add raffle games to lineup
The Arkansas Lottery Commission voted yesterday to authorize the introduction of raffle games during the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
The lottery plans to hold two raffles during the fiscal year, the first of which will launch in July or August, Lottery Director Ernie Passailaigue said.

Just two months after the first Powerball ticket was sold in Arkansas, the state has produced its first jackpot winner.
The 29-year, 30-installment annuity jackpot was $25 million, which can also be claimed as a $12,153,621 million cash option. The net payout after the automatic 25% federal tax withholdings for the cash option would be $9,115,216. Arkansas does not withhold state tax from lottery prize payouts.

Arkansas Lottery finishes 2009 with $132M in sales
The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery marked the end of its first 95 days of operation at midnight December 31 with a year-end sales total of $132,097,968.
The first instant ticket was sold just after midnight on September 28, followed by the introduction of Powerball on October 31 and of the first Arkansas draw game Cash 3 on December 14.
During the 2009 Arkansas legislative session when the lottery legislation was crafted, it was expected that ticket sales would begin on January 1, 2010.

A new way to play the lottery in Arkansas debuted yesterday.
Lottery retailers can now sell tickets for Cash 3, a game that allows players to pick three numbers in hopes of matching them to numbers selected by a random number generator at the lottery's headquarters in Little Rock.
