California Lottery director resigns amid investigations
California State Lottery Director Hugo Lopez is stepping down immediately, he announced in an email to lottery staff on Friday.
Lopez has led the department since 2015. It's been under scrutiny from the Department of Justice and the State Controller's Office since August, when anonymous employees sent a letter to former Gov. Jerry Brown's office alleging misconduct among senior executives at sales conferences.

Mississippi hires experienced executive for its new lottery
The Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced Wednesday that it is hiring an experienced executive as its first president.
Thomas N. Shaheen, 66, begins June 1 and will oversee operations as Mississippi prepares to join most other states in offering scratch-off tickets and other game of chance.
In an interview on Tuesday in Jackson, Shaheen said Mississippi could start selling lottery tickets by the end of this year.

Vermont Lottery boss quits, raising issue of public records on personal accounts
Daniel Rachek, the head of Vermont's lottery, has resigned less than a year after taking the job.
His temporary replacement, Gary Kessler, who was appointed to run the lottery in mid-September, says that Rachek's departure means the department is unable to retrieve public records that may be on his personal accounts or devices.

A package of bawdy photos allegedly showing senior state Lottery leaders carrying on at a Southern California piano bar, with one image showing an official putting his head up a woman's shirt, was sent to Gov.
