"666" is hot with Maryland Lottery players
Yesterday's date inspired a popular Pick 3 lottery combination: 666.
But not for long.
The Maryland State Lottery stopped selling midday and evening Pick 3 tickets with that combination late yesterday morning, according to Buddy W. Roogow, the lottery's director. The agency cuts off play when the state's liability on a payout reaches $7 million.
Other sold-out combinations? 066, 660, 6666, 6606, 6066 for the evening drawings. All were variations of June 6, 2006 - a date that represen ...

Lottery fever is alive and well in New Jersey
They call themselves the Coolers, based on the 2003 Las Vegas thriller The Cooler, starring William Macy. He plays a character who is hired in old-school casinos to subdue high rollers' action, until he falls in love.
Unlike the movie, this group has not encountered Lady Luck and has yet to pinpoint its cooler. But that doesn't stop them from continuing their 15-year tradition of Thursday lottery lunches.
It's no coincidence that Thursday just happens to be when the Pick 6 is drawn.

S.C. Lottery suspends sales due to computer glitch
South Carolina Lottery officials suspended sales of the Pick 3 and Pick 4 games Thursday after there was a problem upgrading software. It was not clear when sales or cashing in of winning tickets would resume, South Carolina Education Lottery spokeswoman Tara Robertson said. It's an accounting issue on both parts, in cashing in and on what the retailer owes the lottery on their invoice, she said. If you were to come in and cash a ticket and it was for $1, it may say that it's for $2 or vice ver ...
