  CA will have pari-mutuel prizes (state law) and presumably like NY and TX, require the cash/annuity choice to be made when you play. There is the possibility of a $250,000 (fixed) second prize; the 5/71 proposal could have a 2+0 category.

  i don't see a change right away.  i think the mega millins people would rather wait and see what effect CA players have on the game.

  I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

  No there will be a change.  They are hinting at it all over the place.  The day California joins we will get a new matrix.  Look what happened when New York joined...different name and matrices.  But I guess only time will tell.

  i know multi-state games like to change several things at a time, and the population of CA is really big, but i don't see a change until CA shows an effect on the game (they keep hitting the jackpot.).

  I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

  Hmm, what do y'all think about the potential for increased odds? Does the joining of CA deem it necessary to increase the odds? I see the increased odds above, and I'm already thinking of BARELY playing Mega Millions! As it is at 135 million, I'm disgusted.

  That's what I mean. I think it's unfair if they increase the odds when nothing has changed yet with the winning.

  Powerball has more states involved and the odds are 1 in 120,526,770.

  To the Mega Millions people: Don't make me open up a can of whup-ass!

  I hope they change it to anything else other than a $2 price ticket. The game needed to be changed BEFORE California. Now with California the average jackpot will really fall. I think we will see yet another year of low jackpots. The average mega pot is already $6 million less than powerball. With each added state it gets lower.
  
  If I had to pick it would be a 5/60 plus 1/33 that would give enough space on the play forms to have a void area incase of mistakes. Seven rows for the pick 5 and four rows for the pick one. The odds would be 1:5.4 million for the pick five and 1:180 million over all.

  I hear some talk that the jackpot will be lower. At the same time I read several articles saying jackpots will potentially be as high as $200-$300 million. One article said a $400 million jackpot certainly is possible for Mega Millions with California on board.   seems like the same conversations we had when Texas joined approx. 16 months ago, yet nothing changed and the average jackpot win seems to keep going up, I think its somewhere around 80+million average now.......

  I don't have any stats to back it up, but my gut feeling is that the average jackpot win has been significently lower since NY & TX came on board - even with the matrix change.  The odds are already so far out there, that jacking them up really does make that much difference.  I don't play MM or PB for the small wins, its the ideal of chasing a big jackpot that thrills me and the members of my pools.  I can get more people to play when the jackpot is high, and I like having more tickets.
