A Michigan lottery player has won the $205 million grand prize from the latest Mega Millions lotto drawing held on Friday evening.
As of Monday at 11 a.m. EDT, no one has stepped forward to claim the jackpot prize.
Michigan Lottery officials said the winning ticket was sold shortly before 5:30 p.m. EDT Friday at the River District Supermarket in Port Huron, Michigan.
"I'm pleased that a Michigan man or woman is going to be our next Mega Millions millionaire," lottery commissioner Gary Peters said in a news release. The winner must contact Michigan Lottery officials and will have to go to Lansing to get his or her winnings.
River District's owner, Ghanim "Mike" Abro, spent Saturday morning racing around answering phones after hearing on the radio that his store sold the winning ticket.
"My hands have been shaking ever since," Abro said. The store will receive $2,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Abro and his co-workers answered questions all morning from curious customers. Through it all, one man just laughed and plucked down $5 on tickets for the next Mega Millions drawing Tuesday.
Names and rumors about who might have won spread throughout the store, but nobody knew the winner's identity for certain.
If the winner chooses to take a lump sum, the prize will equal $122.6 million before taxes, lottery officials said. If the winner chooses the 26-year annuity option, yearly payments will be $7.9 million before taxes.
In addition to the grand prize winner, 25 players matched all five numbers but not the Mega Ball number. They will receive second prizes of $175,000 each.
Another 137 players matched four numbers, plus the Mega Ball number -- good for third prizes of $5,000 each. Todd from Lottery Post matched 4 numbers for a $150 prize. (Just seeing if you were paying attention.)
The winning numbers from Friday night's drawing were: 23, 25, 43, 46 and 49. The Mega Ball number was 26.
Cheers to the winner....hmmm I wonder if he could spare about 20 grand...never mind. The GA lottery is up for grabs now...that is unless somebody has already won it!!
Hey Rich gal.....Too late on the Lotto South( If that was what you were talking about). It was hit for 14 mil last Wednesday. The winning ticket was sold in Ellenwood, Ga.
Too bad the store owner only gets 2k for a 205 mil jackpot. Better than nothing, yes, but seems kinda small in comparison.
congrats on the win. That makes about 2- 4+0 this year doesn't it?
Yes, but the other one was actually a 3+1, not a 4+0. I'm "prouder" of the 4+0, because I specifically wheeled those numbers, and it was so close to a 5+0.
Yeah I agree $2,000 is a low amount. When a Michigan store sold the winning ticket back in May of 2000 for the record jackpot there was a stink with the owner refusing the $2,000. But Michigan does give a 6% commission on all sales to their retailers. I think that is better than most states. That could be why they have such a low amount.
Here is a quote from the Michigan Lottery's Website
If the winner chooses to take the cash option, the prize will be $124.7 million (before taxes). If he or she chooses the annuity payment, they will receive (before taxes) $8 million per year for 26 years. That equates to $666,666 per month, $153,846 per week, $21,917 per day, and $3,846 per hour for a 40 hour work week!
"The jackpot was originally set at $205 million, but large sales of the tickets increased the amount to $208 million"

I see that quote Todd,

Yeah 2k is horrible. What is the exact payout to the winning stores owners with MM. Is it different in each state?
25K here in GA to the retailer that sells the winning MM or Lotto South jackpot ticket...2K only in Michigan?...what a ripoff!

Congratulations to the winner. Hmmm, (keepitreal has been quiet. I wonder...)

he might be tracking to track down the winner to help start on the rebuilding......
And yet not enough people complain about the low prize return in NY Lotto.
This could be an epic saga on the LP. Didn't they just get a foot of snow? Keepitreal better break out the snowshoes.
I home keepitreal won. If keepitreal won would he be the first winner on lp that won over $1,000,000?
Winning ticket was purchased in a city with an international border. Would be interesting if the ticketholder was Canadian.

I wonder if the winner is my exboyfriend? I have an ex that lives in chicago and plays.
Why would someone from Chicago buy a MM ticket in Michigan?
unless they were on a vacation....
