Goose e-mailed me asking to be allowed back at Lottery Post. My inclination is "no", because I truly feel that I/we gave him so many last chances that he used them all up. However, I just thought I'd see what everyone else thought before making a decision.
Those who don't know the story behind Goose, don't feel that you need to give a Yes or No answer. In fact, it's probably better if you just discard your vote.
For those who know, please take a few minutes to review some past history to remind you why he was banned in the first place. Then, feel free to render your opinion.

Todd,
Personally, I was not here when the incident happened and I did not know the poster, however just some advice from a person who has been dealing with large groups of people taking about one subject for 5 years now. I once had a large support group of over 430 members, yes that is large for a disease support group. At any rate from over view of the posts it appears you have done the Right thing the First Time by removing the person in question. I have learned that one negative person such as what that poster displayed can upset the whole wagon and really the only thing to do is to rid of bad wheel. I know that is a hard decision to make as I had to do the same many times over, however, I has also learned that most people don't change and may demonstrate good behavior for about a week then fall right back into their bad habits and you find yourself giving them the heave hoe again!

I have given people second chances because I am soft hearted in that way, but again they went back to causing a ruckus!
Again this is just my opinion from experience and I am now working with a much smaller group of people..........ahhhhhh much better LOL! I feel for you my friend with such a huge group as this! But as far as I can see, you have done an excellent job here and so go with your own gut feeling on this one!

I will leave it up to you, I voted "no" basically cause all he wanted to do was troll through all the forums leave comments and see who he could hook into a "discussion".....I just went down your rules list and I think he pretty much broke half of them ....I think he was averaging 14 comments a day "just to get his number of posts up to the post leaders". Personally with exception to a few "discussions" I pretty much worked around him....

I voted no because of the number of chances he was given and still did not follow the rules. I sent him private messages and politely asked for his compliance and he replied with profanity. I do not believe his fundamental character has changed.
My justification is in a form everyone will appreciate.
There is a 10% chance he has learned his lesson and will contribute in a positive manner. There is a 90% chance he has not changed and will contribute in a negative manner.
I give the value of positive contributions 10 units. I give the value of negative contributions -1,000 units. (a negative person is 100 times worse than a positive person)
The expected value of letting him back in is -899 units (10% x 10 + 90% x -1,000).
With a negative expected value, my answer is no.

If you do, you are setting a precedence that permanent bans are temporary.

Exactly, fxSterling.........if he took the time to email Todd and ask, I think he deserves a chance to "prove his word".....if one infraction happens, Todd can kick him out.
I always believe in 2nd chances...I guess I am just soft-hearted.
It's Todd's call.
The only negative thing that I can find in bringing him back is that others see it and demonstrate bad behavior like him and then think they can email Todd to get back in. Then they would say, "Todd let Goose back in."

Give it a try if you want to and see what happens (?) You can always make him a guest again.
Very many people probably won't like this of course, but they can always upgrade their membership and block him from their posts and P.M.s
Perhaps the names LottoKing and Goose were also somehow part of the problem, so maybe he should use some other name one that would give him less trouble.
If he would restrict his posts to no more than 2 or 3 per day maybe he won't get into too much trouble (?).

agreed.

it's just a message board. how lonely does one have to be? he can read until his heart's content. unless it's an ip ban, then he can get a new ip address, or grow up and move on.
trolling is not cool, though. screwing up on multiple chances is not cool... mostly because then you get into the situation where if someone whines enough they figure they can get back in... and then someone else is banned and wants to know why they were more permanently banned than someone else.

if you have to drop the hammer to instate a permanent ban in the first place, keep it dropped.

wow, used the search feature,what a trip down memory lane...
picked up 2 things on the trip...
1. I gotta get away from pick3/4 sheets for awhile and back to powerball (since that's where I actually play)
2. I remember the posts with goose and his struggle with english, but he also struggled with math (the universal language) and got mad when someone didn't understand. If it was just that, I would have voted yes, but my last memories of goose (or one of his incarnations) was increasingly raunchy avatars and blatant trolling, so I voted NO.
In the end, goose was a lesson for all... permanent banning is a tough punishment, but loses it's deterrent force if reversed.

LottoKing, Goose or what ever he's calling himself these days was annoying to some every time he returned using a different name. He could change his name but not his behavior and most knew who he was after reading a few of his posts regardless of the name he was using. His behavior was/is a part of who he was/is, if you didn't like him then, it unlikely you will like him now.
