Dick Sandlin along with his wife, Colleen, arrived at the South Carolina Lottery's Columbia Claims Center 13 days after learning they held the winning $15 million Powerball jackpot ticket.
"I called my CPA and a tax lawyer before we claimed the prize," said 79-year-old Dick, of Wilmington, NC. "I'm still dreaming. I guess when I wake-up, I'll jump up and down."
Traveling from their summer home in Florida, Dick and Colleen purchased lottery tickets in every state along the way.
"We bought one in Florida; one in Georgia," said Dick. "When we were approaching the North Carolina line, I told my wife we needed to purchase a Powerball ticket in South Carolina."
They stopped by the Iron Skillet in Florence, but they only had scratch-off tickets. So they stopped by the Amoco Food Shop #3 on TV Road in Florence to 'Quick Pick' their Powerball numbers.
"The ticket really should be mine," said Colleen. "He jumped in front of me in line."
When asked what they plan to do with the money, "I'm going to buy a RC Cola and a Moon Pie," said Dick.
The couple became the fourth South Carolina Powerball jackpot winners on April 4, 2007. They chose to take the lump sum amount of $7.1 million before taxes.
"I'll get the seven and he'll get the one," said Colleen. The couple will be married 50 years in October. [Ed.- I can see why!] They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
The Sandlin's plan to continue to purchase their lottery tickets in South Carolina. They feel luckier in the Palmetto State.
Everyone, take note...another QP wins again!!! I think I'm going to "travel" up to Wisconsin and buy me a QP for PB and Megabucks enroute to my year round home in Illinois!
Oh, and I see they took the cash option...what with him being 79 years of age, that makes 100 percent perfect sense. I take it those moon pies contain a lot of perservatives....hmmm, no need for cryogenic freezing when you can already buy bunches and bunches of moon pies to preserve you WHILE you are living. Okay, I know some of you who are very sensitive about age issues might not like my kind of joking...to that I say win a huge jackpot and chances are you probably won't be looking at what people are saying in this forum...instead you'll be anywhere else you want to be enjoying your multi-millions!

I love their game plan - A ticket in every state. I bet they are glad that they had that vacation home. It was fate!

I hope the article is wrong. Anyone who has a "summer home" in Florida is a little crazy unless you're part mosquito. I think it probably should read that they were traveling from their winter home in Florida.
This is the time of year all of the snowbirds travel north.
By the way, DoubleDown, I have no idea what a moon pie is, so I guess that means I'm still a Yankee.

I live in Delaware. How far south do I have to travel to get a moon pie? I have some in my fridge that were given to me by my cousins from Tennessee and they are delicious.
Worst case scenario - I'll have to swap moon pies for tastycakes.

Congrats to the winners. All this talk of Moonpies and Tastykakes is making me hungry! LOL. But seriously it's good to see a guy down to earth enough to say "I wan't an RC Cola and a MoonPie". Hopefully these folks will stay level -headed and enjoy their new fortune.
Holy rerun batman! I just found on the moonpie website that they are sold at Acme markets, which are all over Delaware (and the one supermarket I never go into, go figure). Guess where I'm shopping this weekend.
If I win Delaware Powerball, tastycakes and moon pies for all! (Of course Delaware allows anonymous winners, so...)
